Ok, I took out most of the joke consoles, and put some real choices in. I purposely left out all current consoles to keep fanboy flame wars to a minimum.
-
Somehow I don't think the CD-i is one of the 'most favored' console systems of the board members here (along with the pico(?), fairchild, etc). You'd get more votes for DC or xbox me thinks. Though the vec is one of my top three...so it's all good :)
-
The Pico holds a special place in my heart, because long before I heard of Mame, my monitor used to sit in a Sega Pico store demo unit, and it had a big plastic monitor case that said SEGA on it.

No atari 2600? No nintendo? How can those not be on the list?
My favorite is the xbox and one of the biggest reasons is because I can play many of those old console games on it. I can even build adapters to use the origanel controls on my xbox for some of those old systems.
-
8-bit NES. Best console ever! You cannot beat the variety and sheer number of those crazy NES games. They were way more original then today's standard console genres, (although the dreamcast had a lot of originality).
-
No write in votes? :'(
There is no Atarti 2600 and no Intellivision. These were the 2 consoles that I played at my friends' houses all the time when I was a kid.
-
c'mon, show the 3do some love
-
If we had some more active mods this would have been deleted as all he put down were crap consoles on purpose

But he screwed up putting Vectrex in the list.
-
Why would we delete the post? If it's got value it'll get read and replied to. If it's worthless it'll disappear as it grows old. Only posts that violate the rules get deleted...

And there's no ActionMAX. Clearly the best. console. system. ever.
-
I have to go with eightbit on this one. Atari 2600 and NES rocked! Probably have to vote the NES my fav absolute though. :D
Xar256 ;D
-
well we are doing write-ins :P, my fav is dreamcast. ya can play snes, nes, atari, mame, genesis, homebrew, and naomi ports all in a system that costs 30 bucks. plus games are cheap too.

Xbox can do all that except for dreamcast plus lots more including PS1. On top of that you can play the best current games.

yea, i have one of them, too... i only prefer dc due to it's incredible price/quality ratio. plus i haven't modded my 'box :P chips on it's way tho

:P :P :P
ITS THE DREAMCAST ! ! !
The greatest console ever(my opinion)
-
Yeah, you got me, I put in all the oddball systems on purpose. ;D ;D
-
I am writing in atari 2600 and dreamcast.
-
My favorite is the NES. Then Dreamcast, Sony and finally XBox in that order.
-
hardly a console, but no-one can forget the old Apple II
-
Yeah, you got me, I put in all the oddball systems on purpose. ;D ;D
Then I'd vote for Nintendo Virtual Boy. Its the oddest yet still coolest (and only) home 3d gaming console!
-
What we really need are multiple polls, one each for 8-bit, 16-bit, 32-bit, 64-bit etc. Then you could make a new poll to vote between the winners. Or classic consoles versus next-gen consoles. Time. Effort. Ugh.
Alternatively you could create (or ask someone to create) a massive form listing every console for people to rank. You'd want to do your research first though, dont wanna offend someone by leaving out the Atari Jaguar! (Cos there's millions of jag owners out there that dont use their machine for a doorstop!)
-
(Cos there's millions of jag owners out there that dont use their machine for a doorstop!)
what else would i use it for?
:P
-
There are millions of Atari Jag owners? Is it the same Jaguar just going up every day on ebay? ;)
-
another fave, unmentioned, is the Colecovision. It had a decent library of games as well. odyssey, TI(ugh hehe), and bally are others failed to be mentioned. I think it better if you(everyone) just list your favorite consoles as the poll is not broad enough.

What would you class the Nintendo Virtual Boy as? Its has a 32bit processor, but only uses 16bit per eye (basically playing 2 games at once to do the stereo vision thing).
-
o please not to be rude but how could you look at it like that
each screen isn't a totally different game theres still a ton of stuff being done in the background
the processor doesn't just draw the screen
-
Virtual boy would go into a handhelds category for starters - (it is portable and independant) - which would separate it from the consoles and pretty much exclude it from the poll.
If you were to add it though, I'd say it'd have to go in the 32-bit class because strictly it is a 32-bit machine, yet a special entry at that.
It does look a bit dodgy though; maybe the poll should be sorted by the era they were released in?

Bally's Astrocade (http://www.alteeve.com/~lance/Ballyfaq.html)
-
Read 241 times but only 10 votes.
The canadates aren't worth voting for.
I want a recall poll, I'll add in Arnold Schwarzenegger.
-
Original Nintendo probably gets my top vote. Super NES is on the list, too. Also worth mentioning are the Dreamcast and Playstation.
There just aren't enough games on XBox that I like that I can't already get on PS2 and I don't wanna have to chip one to get everything that a Dreamcast already does on its own (albeit slightly slower). I'm sure PLENTY of people are gonna vocally disagree with that, but I still stick by that opinion. There may be only 1 or 2 games in the entire XBox library that I like that I can't find somewhere else. However, there are plenty of Playstation games (both 1 and 2) that I can't get on XBox.
-
^^^ please your just dieing to start a flame war^^^
try another website please
-
The Dreamcast has been my best buy. I just wish that I would have known that the price was gonna go down within a month before I bought it.
I like the PS2 for the backward compatibility with the Playstation. I think I will hold out for a XBOX 2 to see if they do the same thing. If it doesn't, I will wait until the drop below $100.
On another note, I don't plan on buying Soul Caliber 2 until I get a XBOX. I want to play as Spawn dangit!

I could go off at length on why the xbox is better than the PS2 but I'll simply say hardware specs, hard drive, and networking.
PS2 has some sweet games but the PS2 does not have a single game that graphically looks better on the PS2 than it does on the xbox.
Dreamcast cost about the same as a good chip for the xbox so thats a valid point plus you still need the xbox. But there are many more emulators available for the xbox then for the DC and the Xbox is a great base for a media center device. Not only can it play DVD's but it can play most any video format available on a PC.
The xbox can play most PS1 games very well. If you want you can even plug your PS1 controller (with an adaptor) into the xbox.
Edit: The poll is now pointless since the choices changed. I voted before but now the choices are different and I can't change my vote.

the hard drive is really the only reason i buy games for it instead of ps2 now, cause i hate having to buy memory cards

actualy, i got mine chipped(yay) and ran Mandrake Linux, you can run any format available on PC.
-
See? It's a civil conversation. Valid points have been made about the XBox. I must also admit that PS2's seem to break more frequently than XBox's.
However, I'm a hard core Squaresoft fan and you won't find them making XBox games any time soon that I'm aware of. The whole reason I bought an original Playstation was to play Final Fantasy 7. Up to that point I didn't know what seperated that system from the others of its time (though I did find out later).
-
ok in that case xbox rules cause it can play neo geo games perfectly with kawa-x it caches the games in hard drive so the 64mb of ram the xbox has is not a factor
-
Looks like the NES is a hands-down winner. That was my vote.
-
I think I voted for other...might have changed it with the new choices (why do this? make another poll...) but can't vote again.
I am a die-hard xbox fan - apart from the hardware stuff I think it's got some excellent titles that surpass anything the ps2 has. I modded mine and now it's like a new machine - complete media center, huge emulator console, giagantic HD for games, etc etc etc...doesn't even look like an xbox anymore.
People play the "PS2 has all the games" card way too often, in fact it doesn't apply anymore now that theres a huge library for xbox. Even my PS2 buddies want xbox's after they play the games.
-

I should try running linux on mine, I've done everything else. I'm supposed to pick up a sit down arcade cab and I think I'm going to set it up for an xbox.
Wouldn't steel battalion be sweet in an enclosed sit down? I haven't dropped the cash for steel battalion yet. It would be a lot easier for me to do if there was more than one title available to play with that massive controller.
-
steel battalion 2 is coming out there ya go lol
the xbox is a great cabinet machine in my opinion
all the emus have a friendly interface and in kawa-x you can even adjust the screen size
it boots instantly
its easy to get it to work on an arcade monitor all you need is a sync splitter (if you can get one i cant find one)
-
I read somewhere that the controls for Steel battalion are getting pretty rare, since not that many were shipped to the US. Hopefully they'll release it again for Steel batallion 2. Probably the most realistic set of controls to date - if you don't hit the EJECT button as your mech melts down you die...along with all the saved games up to that point on your xbox (harsh!).
-

Damn right :D , I still have some videos somewhere....
I'd vote if there was playstation or Sega CD in that list...

Hmmm, you can still find the control with the game for the same price you've always been able to get it for. I've been watching ebay. I've seen a few go cheap I just haven't jumped in.
Steel battalion 2 is mostly adding stuff that should have been included in the first release, like multiplayer play.
I think they went to far in making it to realistic. If they would have made the controller a little more generic they could run multiple games on it and it would be more attractive to drop that kind of cash on.

SNES owns everyone.
-
SNES owns everyone.
err...OWNED everyone !
;)
Now Dreamcast owns anyone ! ;D
-
The Odyssey2 gets snubbed again!
-
Late to the party but gotta say Dreamcast! Xbox is my favorite current console though...so versatile.
