Title: D9200 and Slikstik, questions.
Post by: BombJack on August 19, 2003, 06:59:11 am
I currently play Mame games with a Ozstick ultimate (two player 7 button per player layout with sanwa sticks, nice and compact) and 21" computer monitor. I am quite happy, but I quess I could always be happier ;) So I have been thinking of buying a Slikstik classic controller (I really want a trackball and a spinner and the 4-way joystick is also a nice addition), 27" D9200 monitor and building a cab for them. Some questions:

1. I am mostly interested in fast paced action games like robotron, bombjack, dodonpachi etc. Is a 27" monitor too big for them? What I mean is that I suppose that with a bigger monitor I have to move my eyes more around the playfield, and this could possibly make the game harder because I cant see all the bullets etc. without moving my eyes. Am I completely wrong here?

2. Do any of you Slikstik owners play Robotron? Any problems? The reason I ask this is because I think the joysticks in slikstik are quite far apart.

3. Has anyone used the new metallic SS-competition handles (ball top) yet. I really like how they look, but how do they work in games?

I have this set up and love it.

No problems at all, in fact running AdvanceMame makes the video look perfect.  The sound is off a little in my setup with this game, but that is probably an issue with the windows' emulation.  I haven't set this up under DOS to see if it works any better.  I did plug in a SBLive card to see if my sound card was the problem, but it worked the same.

Mame32 works just fine for sound, that's why I think it's an AdvanceMame issue.

Eitherway, enough about my problems - A SlikStik and D9200 monitor are a great combination!  I haven't tried the 'crack your skull open' metallic handles, just normal black ones.

Having just played Robotron on a D9200 with a SlikStik controller, I can say without a doubt that it's a great way to play the game!  ;)

I love how Robotron looks on the D9200, sharp, clean, and BIG.

Check out my video review of the SlikStik balltop handles for a brief shot of Robotron on the D9200:
