I have not tested Suspend or Hibernate when using Hardware so I wondered if anyone else had.
If so please give details:
I.e.
PacDrive - Natively
PacDrive - via LedBlinky Plugin
LedWiz via LedWiz Plugin
LedWiz via LedBlinky Plugin
MaLa hardware (LED or LCD) - Natively

I'm going to be trying out EWF and HORM (Hibernate once resume many) here in a bit.
Same hibernate technology, it's just that you explicitly "hibernate and save state" and after that, when you hibernate, it doesn't save the current state, so when you unhibernate, you end up restoring back to your original explicitly saved state. Seems like a great tool for use in a mame cab.
I'll let you know.

I use hibernate function, work fine, but i not have pacdrive or other hardware...

I just realized in reading up on EWF and HORM, that, unless I'm reading it wrong, HORM +requires+ EWF, and EWF effectively caches all harddisk activity into ram instead of writing to the Harddrive.
If that's the case, I can't see that being used effectively in a MAME cab, if you want to do things like see the coin drop stats, track high scores, etc. etc.
You'd loose all that every time you powered off.
It sounded so good.
Maybe Patryck can correct me on this?
But if that IS the way it works, normal hibernate would seem to be the better way to go.

Hi, yes, ewf system not write on Hard disk but only in ram...so in the next boot you not have the change!
There are 2 system for do it:
1) when you make changes click on button for hibernate the system, will 'create another hibernation file with with your new changes.
2) the better way is have two hard disk!
ewf+horm work ONLY in the hard disk with windows xp, if you put all your emulator, roms, ecc.. in second hard disk you can use ewf+horm system and you can do all the changes you want!

Thanks for the clarification. that's what I was guessing when I looked over the screenshots, but I wasn't sure.
In my case, it's all in one partition, I don't have space for a second HD (it's pretty cramped in my cab), and I"m not really wanting to go through the pain of a repartition right now.
So, I guess it's plain ol' hiberate for me...
Still, I think there's definitely some merit to using something linke EWF and HORM in a mame cab!
Thanks again for posting that info.

The ewf/horm system work in all the partition in the hard disk, you must add other hard disk, no partition!
You want use hibernation for shutdown the cabinet? ok, but remember, you can leave active ewf/horm system, when you not do any change in your mamecab, you can turn off the cabinet use switch button, other times use hibernation from MALA :)
P.s. If you use only MAME emulator another way is to use a pendrive, you can use it as hard disk, moving only folders that mame use when modify hiscore ecc.. (folders HI and NVRAM), with this system all your record will be recorded :)
P.p.s. you not have space for second hard disk?
i put windows xp in compact flash and emulator/roms in hard disk :)

Now +that's+ an interesting idea. I've never seen an adapter card like that before.
I'm sure there's several people around here building small footprint jukes or bartops that might like something like that too!

I'm not using the standby "feature" but I do use the power button (externalized) to put my cabinet into standby and it works fine. I have (IIRC) pacdrive with ledblinky. No problems.

Good to know.
This thread was triggered by a report in another thread of issues. But that is now reporting the problem 'went away'
