Title: boot up to MAME
Post by: numbnutz48 on January 15, 2011, 01:16:29 pm
Can anyone explain to me (like I'm a 3 yr old) how to get my computer to boot directly to my front end when I power it on?

Put the shortcut in

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

You can configure Windows XP to automate the logon process if your computer is not part of a domain.
1.
Click Start, click Run, and type control userpasswords2
2.
Clear the "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer" check box.
3.
Click Apply.
4.
Enter the user name and password you wish to automatically log on with, and then click OK.
5.
Click OK again and you're all done.

What do you mean replacing my boot up screen?

I'm not even close to being a savvy computer guru

How does that process affect the function of the normal use of the computer when out of the front end? Ultimately that's what I want to do is have the computer boot up right to the front end, but still have the option of closing the front end and using the internet as nomal too

OMG!!

I just read through that WIKI and may I say Holy !#@*.........I don't know how you guys are able to do some of this stuff. I think I may be better off just leaving things alone. I'm a plumber by trade which means I don't know jack about computers. lol

I built my cabinet with no troubles and I can barely navigate my way around MAMEville. It just seems to be way out of my league to dive into my computers inners and start tweaking things!

you SHOULD set up the FE to exit to Explorer (the normal shell for XP) and your right back to your desktop, that way you can do maintenance and make changes and such too, plus whatever else you normally do on your computer

It's not hard, but I would only suggest it if you want a machine mostly dedicated MAME or games in general

There are a couple of apps in the software forum that do all that for you automatically you just check a couple of boxes

Instantsheller
Quicksheller (I like this one better, just an opinion though)
