hey everyone, how do you get unplugable usb controllers to work with mame without screwing up the joystick numbering in mame? ie: i have controllers that i only wanna plug in when they are needed. but adding or removing them messes with my cp
its so frustrating :banghead:

As far as I know you can't keep it from happening. The ID's are assigned by Windows and each time you unplug/plug in the USB the ID can change. I have not been able to find a way to keep it from happening, so I just keep all of my adapters plugged in so they don't change.

Isn't there a utility in the utility section that manages joy assignments?

I use Devcon with scripting to enable/disable my USB devices....Works great!

It's too bad u_rebelscum hasn't been on in almost a year. He would be the best resource for this question.
More possible solutions:

yeah, I have been through this whole ordeal as well. I have had NO luck changing device IDs, no matter what ID they had, it never changed the "order". Hopefully you have better luck than I have had!
