Hi, I'm new to audio forums... Here's a simple question: are there (by 2011 I hope so!) home stereos that can play mp3 files?
I need to play music 12 hours a day in a small restaurant, and the music is ready in one single 1.8Gb mp3 folder that must be played in shuffle or random mode, so all music is played in different order every day...
If I use my Sony Walkman (portable mp3 player) connected to speakers, or to a stereo with a simple plug/rca cord, the problem is that the player's battery will be exhausted after some hours of playing, so I need a solution that uses AC power to forget about batteries...
I wonder if there are stereos with memory included to load mp3 files, or maybe at least stereos with an USB port to place -permanently- a pen drive with all the music to be played by the stereo...
Thanks a lot for any kind advice!

1.-being cheap as i am, i would go and buy an ac adaptor for the mp3, that way i dont have to buy a new stereo.
2.- yes newer stereos they come with mp3 suport but ill ask before ill buy just to make sure.

Thank you abispac!
My mp3 player (Sony Walkman) has no place for any AC cord/adapter... I guess a modern stereo with USB port will be the solution...
How can I know about stereo models having random play function for mp3 files?
Thanks!

Could someone please recommend mp3 players that use AC power and have random play mode?
Thanks!

Probably more than you want to spend, but you could go with something like this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815306025&cm_re=media_player-_-15-306-025-_-Product (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815306025&cm_re=media_player-_-15-306-025-_-Product)
It's designed for video playback, but does MP3s as well, with a RCA style line out.
Plays from USB, but also network.
Does JPG slideshows also... eventually you could use it for digital signage at your shop.. sales, specials, etc.

Doess it play in random mode directly from a pen drive?
Thanks!

Id be shocked if it didn't.

Are your speakers connected directly to your mp3, and not a receiver. If so, you could easily pick up a 2GB - 4GB mp3 player for under $50. Most should come with an adapter and I'd bet all have shuffle mode. I can't imagine any mp3 player that doesn't.
Depending on your speaker plugs, another option would be to pick up a DVD player that plays mp3s (see Philips DIVX). Some of these will also offer a USB port if you've got your 1.8GB on a flash drive you'll be set. Pretty sure they'll do shuffle too. These can be had for under $70.

an ipod with ipod dock speaker system is what you want

when a piece of electronic does not have an ac adapter, i just get and lets say 3 volts adapter for a 2 AA batteries electronic, remove the plug from the dapter, and atach directly into the electronic baterry compartment, should be easy.

I have a sony walkman mp3 player as well and you can put in on the charger while it plays. If you have a charger with a USB on one end, replace it with a wall charger for a phone with the same end as the walkman. I have like 3 of them laying around for that purpose

most DVD players now a days play mp3's... plus you can burn 4 gigs of music...
