Title: Cocktail cab and LCD - viewing angles and widescreen
Post by: diverdown on January 09, 2011, 10:56:18 pm
I am planning on making a 3 sided cocktail cab again and the last time i used a 21 inch CRT with out issue.

For space (depth) i would prefer to go LCD.

Is there an 19 inch / 20 inch LCD monitor that will give me max viewing angle H and V that I should consider?

Is there a way to make a WIDE screen LCD show a 4:3 aspect (i.e. letterbox the sides) to increase my options?

Should I just stick with CRT and be done with it?

Best viewing angles are attained by IPS panel technology.  These are also the most expensive.  Most 19" non-widescreen LCDs are actually 5:4. but that's close to 4:3, and you can letterbox a little if you want, and many are IPS panels.  You can "barn door" aka "pillabar" a widescreen LCD to only use a 4:3 area.  For PC signal sources, you may need to do so in software.
