Hey, everyone, will try to attach photo of what I'm up to. Haven't tried to solder in 15 years???
Anyway, these pedals came from a Thrustmaster T2 set. Had this idea to attach them to front of my cab for 2 player games like Sprint. Thought about just attaching a microswitch, but wanted to try the Dual Strike first (Thanks to 1UP for posting plans, very easy to follow).
This setup *works*, with a couple of issue to resolve. Was able to map in mame one pedal to p1 and the other to p2, got blue and red cars going in Sprint.
1. Biggest issue is seems to be a button pressed. In Mame32 startup, its as if the "Down" arrow is pressed, went straight to bottom of games list. The dual strike has a pov button, but all the button wires are cut. Any idea what this might be?
2. Some wierd ground issue I think with the x-axis pedal. In windows --settings --joysticks --dual strike properties, the + jumps around. And get this: When I touch the pedal (metal part) with my hand, and my bare foot is touching the concrete floor in my basement, it jumps around even more! That's why I though it might be a ground issue. Any ideas?
3. Final problem is y axis seems to be reversed. The red car was going w/o pedal pressed, and stopped when I pressed pedal I figure that should be a simple fix by reverse the left and rights wires to the pot.
Comments are welcome, thanks.

Update already: I load up the properties in windows again, no jumping around so seems like the "grounding" issue was a one time gremlin, I hope it doesn't return.
And, the "down" key press problem I think is solve also. It was the y pot, remember it is reversed. When I pressed the y pedal down, the menu in mame32 stopped scrolling down.
...oh well...
stay tuned, I will try to figure out a way to attached these to my cab so they look decent.
Thanks,

aaarrrrgghhhh...well reversed the wires on the axis pot. In windows settings its reversed. Now, in Mame32 its going UP repeatedly instead of down!
And, load up sprint. P1 works fine with x axis pedal, but p2 is still going full throttle with y axis pedal up, and only stops with pedal pressed in!
Any solutions? Am I going to have to get a 2 dual strike for the p2 pedal? Would that work?
Thanks again for listening.===

First, try analog+ mame. It splits the mice so that you can use yaxis on one spinner and xaxis for another (with one mouse hack).
And it was first created for analog pedals I beleive.
So I would guess your answers will be there...

My apologies for the plethora of posts, but I am close to solving this and need the collective wisdom of BYOAC. Here's where I'm at:
When I go to settings-game controlers--dual strike usb -- properties:
re the x-axis, in the window the "+" sign is centered, and when I depress the pedal, the "+" goes to the left.
But, re the y-axis, the one causing problems, the "+" is at the top (or bottom when the wires were reversed) and when I depress the pedal the "+" goes to the center.
What I need to do is rewire so that the y pedal starts out centered, and when depressed goes to the the top (or bottom) of the pots ranges. Simply reversing the left/right of the 3 wires to the pot doesn't center it, just starts it at top v. bottom.
What's the wiring solution here?
Thanks again,

One last (for now!), this guy (Build Your Own Wheels and Pedals):

has diagrams, he's using only 2/3 of the connections on the pot. But its to a gameport, not usb. Any idea what would be different with 1UP dual strike hack?
Lilwolf: thanks for the suggestion, a couple weeks ago I figured out how to compile Analogmame, so I will try that.

It sounds like you've got 2 problems: 1) turn off the "allow game selection by a joystick" option in Mame32. This will stop the scrolling problems. 2) make sure you are using the right connection for the center contact on the pot. It sounds like you might have the +/-/com connections reversed or something.

But, re the y-axis, the one causing problems, the "+" is at the top (or bottom when the wires were reversed) and when I depress the pedal the "+" goes to the center.
Some joystick drivers can reversive an axis; not sure on the dual strike driver, though. This would work on all games.
Or you can reverse the pedal in mame. Go to analog controls, and for the player pedal that uses the Y axis, turn on the reversed setting. This is a standard mame feature
You'll have to do this for every game you want to use the pedal, though.

You were close. See if this link helps you out:

You ready for the solution guys? It wasn't the wiring. I physically took the y-axis pedal apart, rotated the pot halfway, and put the pedal back together.
Problem solved! The y-axis starts out "centered" in the middle, like the x axis pedal.
Was able to load up Sprint and map x axis pedal to P1 and y axis pedal to P2 -- works!
Thanks,
