Title: Gyruss Cocktail Restoration

OK another noob thread but help sincerely appreciated.

Ive picked up a non functioning cocktail cabinet that has been identified as having a Gyruss PCB.
This cabinet has been sitting in a garage for several years and has some rust and potential contact issues.

I've powered it up and there is a orange glow to the monitor neck but nothing on the screen.
Ive checked the 5v and 12v voltages on the PSU and they appear to be ok
Fused checked.

My questions.

Is there a logical next step for trouble shooting i should follow?
Should i try using some PCB / contact cleaner first?
Should i start removing the PCB's and guts and clean everything out first?

This is my first attempt at this, ive read through some of the wiki and video which im sure I'll be referring to for more detail but i was hoping for more of a plan A -D next steps.

You did the right first step which is to check the voltages. 

No need to tear it apart for cleaning yet.  Check all the connections to maker sure everything is connected including the ones to the monitor.

Drop a coin in a hit start.  Does the game play blind (no monitor but sound)?


Let's see a picture of the control panel and top glass.  I've never seen a Gyruss cocktail.  I'm sure it's a conversion as I'm not aware of any dedicated ones.

OK just re-seating the edge connector brought some life to the machine :-)

There is still no sound, although the speaker makes a short popping sound when the machine is turned on.

Ive attached a screen shot, any suggestions where i should start probing now?

That looks like a board issue and not a monitor issue.

Yeah, ive had a report from a fellow gamer who experienced exactly the same output that its a ROM issue.
I guess i'll first try and re-seat them, failing that see if i can get some new ones flashed?
Is there an easy to identify the roms?

Where is the +5v sitting?  Konami boards are real finicky about getting just the right voltage. In fact if memory serves me right, it should be 4.9.
