Title: MAME Error (when adding cheat config in mame.ini file)
Post by: digitalmonkeyman on January 06, 2011, 12:32:51 am
When I set up Mala for first use, I go to the Option: MAME Config: basics: MAME Executable and select it.

When I do, a message pops up saying That MAME was found v0.138

I click OK

Then it asks me to create a mame.xml, and when I do, in the popup DOS box, I get the following error

C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe
Warning: Unknown Option in INI : cheat_file

It eventually goes away, but I set everything else, and the FE loads just fine.  however when I actually try to play a game, I get a DOS error box with the same warning and some other warnings, that flash by too fast for me to read.  It then just returns to the FE screen.

Please help!!!

This is a Mame error not a MaLa error.

MaLa sends the command to mame to create the XML file.

When mame get's this command it reads it's .ini file and has produced an error in your case.

I don't use cheat files but it's bound to be something simple.

I would ask in the software section.

as for reading mame errors, it's best to sort that out first before firing from a FE.

ie. try launching a game from a command prompt when in the mame directory
eg: mame invaders

That way the error will stay in the window
