hi, i have a issue. the monitor/tv iv decided to use is 1" to big for my cab. i was gonna cut some slots into the side of the cab to make room for the flat screen. but im wondering if i want to do that when i plan on rebuilding this cab anyhow.. now it will fit if i mount the monitor in vertical. my question is what is it like to play a fighter oon such a screen?
its 26" flat screen. if you have some video footage that be great. im not gonna do anything untill after the football games are over. heh first time in months iv used this tv.. reason iv decided to use it for my cab. anyhow.. got sucked into the saints game.
thank you for any feed back.

Horizontal games will play fine with it mounted vertically assuming the TV has good viewing angles. You will end up with a smaller effective screen size however. I'm not gonna do all the math, but I'll ballpark it. Assuming you have a 16:9 aspect ratio TV, I'm guessing horizontal games in the vertical orientation will be like having a 16 inch 4:3 screen, give or take.
Hope this answers your question.

ok, thank you. yeah it has great viewing angles.. that was one of the things that made me buy this. i originally bought this thinking id use it for a pinball machine down the road. honestly had some other idea for a monitor for my cab ( but the monitor i originally bought is just to small for it.. and i ended up using it for my desktop monitor.. and netflix has never looked better). but now, im to the point. i am not using this tv, so will use it in my cab.
thank you once again. new to this stuff.

This isn't a bad setup... I have a 27" CRT in my vert cabinet, but still play Robotron (horizontal) on it because I like the sticks on that machine. With a monitor that size, I don't think you'll be too disappointed.
Never took vid of it playing a horizontal game though, sorry.

so you wanna play vertical games on a horizontal mount?
I have the exact opposite problem.

hi. i think i messed up here. you see i originally made my cab a certain width. to get it in and out of my skinny door ways. I also went with a two piece design ( plans from mameroom.com ultimate II ) so i could get it in and out just in case i had problems when it was fully assembled.. well even after my careful measurements etc. the cab still can not get out of my door way cause of one wall corner. ( i will be building another cab.. and now i know how how the dimensions work.. i will go thin line and use the 26" tv for it too) anyhow.. so for me to get the cab from one room to the next or whatever ill have to take it apart.
So the widest monitor i can get inside my cab is 24" the problem is i cant find anything that will fill up the space. so iv decided heck with it and ill use my 26" flat screen tv. now this tv will fit if i put it in my cab vertically. as its only 18 1/2" or so from top to bottom.. and 26 + or - length wise.
as i am going to be using this tv when i rebuild the cab. i figure ill just go ahead and install the tv vertically. i originally was gonna cut some slots in the side of the cab to make it fit. but the more i thought about that, i just did not like that idea..
now iv been trying to see how i can mount this in my cab. looks like im gonna have to buy a vessa tv bracket attachment. and then just mount a 2x6 or whatever horizontally inside the cab.. and then mount the vessa adapter to the 2x6 beam. seems like the simplest way to attach a standard 26" flat screen.
i guess if the year was 2007 i could find a CRT with s video all day long and just set the tv down on the base. how the original plans were design for.. ooo why did flat screens become the norm.. if you would ask me just a few years ago.. flat screen tvs would come down in price so the masses could have them.. i would of laughed. when unicorns fly out of steve jobs rear end.. ooo TMI.

so you are doing it the same way as me. yes VESA mount with an LCD tied to a 2x6 is the easiest way. picking up that 32" CRT is no picnic

yeah that was the first thing came to mind to mount the flat screen once i decided i was gonna use the tv, i like this style of bracket ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824998240&cm_re=vesa_mount-_-24-998-240-_-Product (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824998240&cm_re=vesa_mount-_-24-998-240-_-Product) )
so down the road if i decide having a full size cab is just to big for my needs. i can mount the tv to the wall and just build a pedestal that can be pushed up a against the wall when not in play. sorta like the golfing game. hope i can find one local this weekend.. did not really want to spend 50.00 but at least i only have to buy it once right. laughs. as im not having to buy monitor, i can use the funds i put aside to get 2 aimtrack kits + shells and maybe some other gun shells to play around and use the aimtrack shells for back up in case i totally mess up trying to haxor a gun shell.
i will mount the 2x6 using metal brackets they sell at home depot for joists in roofs. should be plenty strong when all is said and done. so this weekend i need to find me one of these vesa brackets like in the url/picture. couple steel 2x6 brackets to mount the 2x6 to the cab walls. 1 4x.25 board to mount at the top and bottom of the cab, etc use this board to mount the plexi glass in.. will wing that as i go once the tv is installed via the vesa mount. walls. yeah i cant find my spade bit so i can drill the on/off button for the computer. not sure if ill mount that on the top of the cab or below the control pane. with my little sister having her first kid. and knowing he is gonna be getting into trouble with anything he can reach im thinking top of the cab around where the marquee is would be good place. hey malen your cab looks great. :)
will l append this to my build thread for those who are reading that thread only. thanks for all your help.

Well, that's what all our cabinets are going to be looking like in 10 years. Not as bad as I feared, but I think I'd make it dedicated horizontal and cover up the top and bottom of the LCD.
you do realize thats a 32" CRT right? and vert games look AMAZING on it.

oo thats what you meant by lifting a crt.. was wondering. i assumed it was a flat screen as that is what i was asking about. doh.. have a great morning.
after my doctors appointment yesterday i picked up a vesa mount from local electronic store. i would of mounted it yesterday but doctors told me to stay off my feet till i see the heart specialist. so.. im gonna try to get to home depot today and get the stuff see if i cant mount this thing while standing i mean leaning on my stool. :)
im sure doctor meant standing strait up not stooped over a arcade cab!!
