Hello all....
looking to upgrade my control panel. i want to use the white pushbuttons that has the RGB leds under them. I know that there are 4 wires per rgb light setup and i'll have a total of 28 push buttons
- So will that mean I will need 4 ledwiz's?
- And with ledwiz, can I change each button to 100000+ colors using the supplied software?
Thanks
Sav

If you want an rgb on each of 28 buttons, that's 28*3=84 inputs, 84/32 = 2.6, so you'd need at least 3 32 port LEDWiz's.
You may find you'll want some additional cabinet lights as well, so you may want to get a 4th to cover your bases.
And be prepared for a LOT of wiring.
And yes, you can have a full gamut of color out of each LED. Checkout the videos of LEDBlinky to see what's possible. It's an awesome piece of work. Well worth the reg fee.

RGB LEDs seem to be a hot topic lately. Seems like there is a need for LED controllers with more inputs... ;)

+1 to that!

thanks for the info guys...
....so i use ledwiz to wire the LEDs up...and use ledblinky to control them...right?
sorry for the stoooopid questions..im not new to mame cabinets by anymeans.....its winter out..really cant do anything outside due to my bad knees from snowboarding for 20+ years...want to upgrade my control panel while im inside..just dont want the dreadful cabin fever! :) lol
thanks again guys

LEDwiz and ledblinky is indeed the most common and easiest combination.
I do however want to make a little sidenote on the amount of LEDwiz' you and drventure are talking about. First of all, he's right. You'll need at least 3 ledwiz' if you want every single LED to be controlled individually. And that's something you tend to see a lot. I once saw somebody who had 5!! of those little ---daisies--- in his cabinet! Do realize however, that this is in no way necessary. It is perfectly possible to connect multiple wires to one LEDwiz output. So you could for example connect 3 LEDs to the same inputs, and then you can turn your cab into a christmas tree with one single LEDwiz. There is a downside of course, be it a small one. The LEDwiz can only send one command to that "bundle" of LEDs connected to that specific output. So that means that all the LEDs you connect to that output will light up in the same colour, or light pattern. On my CP I connected all parallel buttons from player 1 and 2 to the same LEDwiz port. So P1 button 1 and P2 button 1 are linked, coin1 and coin2 are linked, start1 and start2 are linked,... This still gives a very nice effect since everything is nicely synchronized.

The RGBs will all share a common 5v (the 4th wire), so that's why you only need 3 ports on the controller for each RGB.

would that not also share a ground?

Yes but it's done through a single point on the board.
