Post by: adidas1984x on December 26, 2010, 07:02:46 pm
i have heard some stories of it working but has anyone seen old school laserdisc games working on mame or some sorta daphne emulator like mad dog mccree, drug wars, space pirates, who shot johnny rock etc.
I would love to play and see these great classics

There's an offshoot of daphne called singe that emulates them, but you have to have the original digital leisure pc or dvd games to get the video files from.

Check out this thread, starting with where isu camper says "Holy Crap!"

I tried Singe, but it seems to diminish the video quality when it converts the videos.
The HUD/Score, etc looks like the original arcade game with Singe.
The PC one is updated & looks better, but isn't true to the original.

I have all the digital leisure games except Fast Draw Showdown.
Converted them all to Singe and tried them, but ended up leaving the pc version on my cab.

More to the point......

PC versions from digital leisure.  (you can find them cheap on fleabay.  Buy XP versions, not DOS versions...video is horrible on the DOS versions)

SINGE/Daphne emulator:

SINGE can do that.
The video quality is probably a lot better from the DVDs.  :)

I'm pretty sure the DVD version is only usable on MD1.  The rest of the games have to be the CDRom version.

yes i think that is the problem now. Newest update I put the singe on my mame cabinet which is a ki2 cabinet my pc has a arcade vga card and im using the jpac but the mad dog game when i load it up the screen is just bouncy and not perfect like the other arcade games that run fine. my mame works perfect and my daphne dragons lair works fine, genesis and snes all work fine just not hte singe

This thread is a tad old, but I just wanted to clarify something.

Singe does NOT emulate arcade games at all.  Singe was a off-shoot of daphne designed for the creation of original laserdisc games.  It set on a shelf for years unused but eventually it was released to SIMULATE the american laser games.  In terms of arcade accuracy, it does a better job than the digital leisure releases, but that isn't saying much as they are always terribly inaccurate.

In other words, just like the DL releases, Singe uses the original arcade video footage with it's own code.  Singe tries very hard to be arcade accurate though, so it is the better choice usually.
