So I've got an aimtrak in a Guncon and it works well. For my second guncon, I'd like a more machine gun type shell. I think this would be better for games like operation wolf and T2, which used positional joysticks and have a cursor on the screen. You could comfortably hold it at chest level and point around the screen. I've kept my eye out but haven't found anything that seems like it would work very well. Any ideas?

Buy a cheap airsoft gun. Let your kid play with it until it breaks, which shouldn't take long. Then gut it and put in the aimtrak guts. Something like this should give you plenty of room to work with.

THe PCB is small, but its not microscopic and I don't think that Airsofts have enough room in the barrel

lots of good possiblities on that site. thanks

Maybe the PCB wouldn't fit in the average Airsoft, but the gun in brock's link has loads of potential! I kinda wish I was in the market for a light gun right now.
I'd like to try this one due to it's smaller size:

I plan on using a couple of airsoft guns for my aimtraks. For the pistol, I'll be removing the barrel and fitting the aimtrak inside the slide. For a rifle, I plan to mount the aimtrak just in front of and below a red dot sight (or scope), and add a small plastic cover to hide it. The two guns linked in this thread look like they have room in that spot. Probably will need to cut off the front sight to give the aimtrak a clear view forward, but with the aimtrak LEDs mounted on top of the screen, the body/barrel below the aimtrak should not interfere (I think). That should also let me stand a bit closer to the screen vs mounting the aimtrak in the end of the rifle barrel.

Just remember a couple of things, the PCB's are about 0.6 inches by about 1.6 inches deep by about a half inch high and they needed to be right at the end of the barrel, the camera sensor is angled upwards so you need to mount it close to the end of the barrel, otherwise you have to stand back to account for barrel blockage. Plus you would have to drill out the handle to let the USB cord through, and then rig the trigger up to a microswitch, and I would also recommend mounting a second microswitch somewhere to use as reload. That's a lot of work.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Not a machine gun, but closer than a handgun. You can use the Incredible Technologies shotgun from Happs (http://www.happcontrols.com/amusement/optical/900890234.htm (http://www.happcontrols.com/amusement/optical/900890234.htm) --Sorry I can't get the link button to work for me today).
I've re-wired one to use Andy's light gun PCB. Took some time, but t works great. I wired it up to the trigger and pump; I even soldered the USB plug into the wires running through the rubber hole.
It's not cheap, but it's solid. I told my customer, none of the neighborhood kids are going to break it (unless maybe they take start hitting each other with it =-).

That's the exact IT shotgun I bought last fall off the 'bay.
How was the retrofit? Were you satisfied with the end result? What did you do with the Happ optics?

Yes, I kept everything except the board and the lens (You've gotta remove the lens), I think I tossed them (might have been able to find a buyer on ebay). You just need to connect Andy's boards to the existing wires for the trigger and pump. The soldering of the USB port takes a little skill, but then you can use the include commercial quality tube, wich really looks nice.
I did have to dremmel the plastic that holds the lens, so I could mount the PCB as close to the front as possible. Just remember if you are using a larger screen you may have to stand back a foot or two so the sensors can see the camera.
In the end it cost some money and took some time, but it worked GREAT!
I have a customer thinking about this, if he goes for it I'll take photos and post them on my blog and try to remember to post them here as well.

Has anyone added recoil to their shell?
I'd like to have Namco-style recoil on an optical gun, and locally they sell hyper-realistic airsoft guns. Always hated the blue/red/pink colored arcade guns.

I've added solenoid recoil to my Nerf Maverick Aimtrak mod. Since I couldn't find any tutorials, I'm making one for others to follow. Right now it's a work-in-progress on the Hyperspin forums, but I intend to post it on this board when I'm finished.
