Title: which t-molding slotting cutter?
Post by: kjbalto on December 16, 2010, 10:44:01 am
Sorry for the newbie question. I want to make sure I don't buy the wrong tools.  I have 3/4" wood that I am using for my jukebox and I want to install t-molding on it.  What do I need to do this?  Do I just need to buy the slotting cutter arbor 1/4" and which size slotting cutter do I need?  I was going to order it from t-molding.com unless you guys have a better site?

I got mine from Groovy Game Gear, when I bought the moulding. Interesting enough, I flipped it over last night, and now it works perfectly! No more acrid smoke!

Hehe..... you are definitely NOT the first to have done that.

But anyways..... it's a 1/16" slot cutter for the original posters question.

Ha ha! I did that once myself!

T-molding barbs vary, not only from manufacture to manufacture, but also depending on the head and speed of the extrusion equipment. Most of the time a 1/16 inch slot bit works fine. BUR, unless the price is outrageousness, I'd buy it from the manufacture--then you know you're getting the right bit.

Also, it sounds like this is the first time you are cutting a slot. I'd recommend cutting some scrap wood (especially on the curves). It takes a little practice to not lift the router up slightly when you go around curves.

You can get the exact same one from t-molding.com on amazon.com for about $20 cheaper (inc. shipping costs - amazon shipped it free to me).  Just search out the part numbers.
