Title: LCD TV Repair Question?? Can someone please help?
Post by: mgb on December 14, 2010, 08:38:31 am
I have a Proscan 32lb30q LCD TV thats 2 yeras old. The colors went all crazy on it the other day. The first time it happened, it cleared up after a short while, the next time took a little longer and now it won't clear up. The problem is common to all inputs
The picture looks like when you have a computer monitor set for too low of colors. Kind of like a posterized image.
I attached a pic below to show what its doing.
Any black in the image gets a green speckle noise and the colors band so that shading looks more like solid colors.
The video movement is not effected and the sound is fine.

from what I've read online, it looks like it may be the T-Con board. I want to get some more oppinions before replacing that board. I will also be opening it up tomorrow night to check ribbon cable connections, etc.

Thanks in advance to anyone who may be able to help.

yeah, my rear projection lcd looks kinda the same. getting some funky red and green banding instead of nice smooth gradients.

i am still yet to solve it. but you have given me something to look at.

EDIT:

oh, and if it's something that kinda came and then went and came and then stayed... it's likely something has gone sideways. check up on a replacement part on e-bay, if it exceeds the cost of a new tv, toss it. save yourself the hasselhoff.

that's sometimes referred to as 'solarization'

You might try a firmware update.

I will try contacting the manufacturer to see about a firmware upgrade but i'm not sure its possible on this brand/model.
 there is no usb port.
I've read some articles on solarlization and false contouring but they seem to be more about minor cases where its just a low quality tv spec. but this tv has been working fine for 2 years (albeit it is a cheaper brand) but then just went nutty.
well hopefully I'll get it because I'm too cheap to replace it without a fight

i had a look through the user manual for the Proscan 32lb30q, and you may be right. but you might still have a usb or an SD memory card slot internally on the board. if not you just might be looking at maybe building a JTAG cable to program it. other than that you may be SOL :(

you might need to start looking at a new TV for x-mas.  :dunno

Good news  :applaud:
I pulled the tv off the wall tonight, opened it up and reseated all of the ribbon cables, especially the one between the main board and tcon board.
I put it back up to test and it looks fine now. Time will tell if it stays good.
for now I'm just keeping a few things hooked up: my U-verse box (component), my Roku (HDMI) and most importantly my Dreamcast (VGA).
Thanks for the input guys, I hope it will stay going well.
Now I gotta get my darn vertical cabinet done to go along side it.

well good news for me as well, i pulled the back off my TV today, reseated the ribbon cable between the video processor board and the light engine. no more funkay color issues!  :applaud: i think it cropped up when we moved the TV to our new place.
