Title: How many hours do you play?
Post by: Dervacumen on December 11, 2010, 10:43:01 am
Just wondering.  In several threads of varying subject matter, there are mentions of playing games through to the end, completion, 100%, etc.  I know the ages of the members here are all over the board, but I'm just wondering how many hours some of you put in to playing console games on a weekly basis?  I'm wondering primarily about the wii, but the platform's not important.  I know I would like to devote 5-10 hours a week, but even that's rare.

Wii.....never. I watch Netflix on it these days. I own many games for it and never play it anymore. Once I got my 360, the Wii just collects dust other than Netflix.

Now, the 360, I play it about 12 hours a week.

Right now I have my Genesis, Wii, PS3, Atari 2600, and my PS1 (for playing backups) hooked up to the TV, and honestly I boot up the Atari about 2 hours this past week, the PS3 only gets used for NetFlix and the Wii gets played some but really only gets emulators played on it...  (AND I JUST BOUGHT IT!)

I have played my MAME cabinet maybe a total for 45 minutes in the past few months...

Man, I use to play all the time.  I remember playing Fall Out 3 for 40+ hours one week.  I use to log a ton of hours in Team Fortress 2 and Day of Defeat Source...

Lately I spend more time repairing old consoles than I do playing anything.  Ive spent about 6 hours this week trying to fix my CompuVision and my Odyssey 2.

Depends upon if I've got a new game for the system and how good it is.

I can spend 4-5 hours a day if it's a good game.  That being said I'm not as young as I used to be and to be blunt I've got stuff to do, so If I play for 5 hours one day it might be a couple of days or more before I pick it up again.  Unless it's a REALLY good game of course.

80-90% of my gaming is done on the wii, because, again to be blunt, the wii has GAMES on it and the 360 ect.. only have the same cruddy fps over and over.  That's not to say there aren't good games on the other systems, they are just few and far between.  Most of the original and fun games are on the dlc section and unless it's REALLY good, I don't participate in purchasing thin air, so those are out (on the wii as well btw).  There are companies like capcom and ubisoft that make great games that are not on the wii and my 360 gets a heavy workout when those are released.  When that happens my gameplay hours on the 360 match those on the wii.... the only thing is the wii gets 2-5 great titles every season and the 360 gets maybe 2-5 every 6 months, so I end up playing the 360 less simply because there are less games to play.

I generally don't have the time I used to for playing games, though I still enjoy them.  I may get an hour or two in on games hooked up to the old TV, and then barely even an hour or two on the Wii/PS3 (as that's on the living room TV and it is used a lot).

The Wii is all I play these days (I don't have a PS3 or 360) and generally it's I'll play maybe 2 hours a day every other day or so when I'm working on a game that really draws me in such as SM Galaxy and Galaxy 2 until I beat them.  Right now I've got a couple games that are pretty good, like Epic Yarn and Epic Mickey.  I've put in maybe 3 hours on Epic Yarn and just over 1 on Mickey over the past week.

I've been playing the Wii specifically
an hour or so a day since Donkey Kong Country Returns came out.

Imported Musashihimesama Futari 1.5 for the  Xbox 360,
and I've been playing that for 2 hours or so at a time the last couple days.
Love that game.

Don't have any consoles.

I got back into Gridwars lately, maybe an hour or so every other day.

The mame buffet is operational but not complete and the config is rough around the edges. Still, we try to unfold it once or twice a week, usually for some Dungeons and Dragons, Snow Brothers, or Penguin Bros (my daughter's favs).

I'll hit Mille miglia/Targ/Spectar/Smash TV or Robotron for 30 mins or so a couple times a week.

But I'm trying to get time to work on 3 sideline software projects, so gaming time is slim right now.

So most of the responses so far are similar to my situation.  I do get more PC gaming in than anything, usually about 30-45 min. each weekday morning before the family wakes up, but sometimes as much as an hour or two depending on when I wake up.
If I throw the PC out of the equation, I get about 30 minutes on any given dedicated cabinet, maybe I get to turn on the MAME machine at some point, and if I get really lucky I'll get to the TV and fire up the Wii for an hour once a week.  When everyone's gone for the weekend or evening I can get in a good 3-4 hour stint once every month or two.
If I find a (wii) game I like, I can't stand not finishing it but with only a couple hours on average a week it seems like I'll be using this console for another 5 years.  I would take it in the other room but my wife uses it for Netflix all the time.

Well, I just had a retro games day yesterday afternoon, setting up all the consoles I have and having friends over, so yesterday I played about ten hours (",) Of course today I was too tired to even touch a console...

I haven't played since July. X-Mas is coming and I usually get myself a newly released game, but I have no interest in any of them.

I guess I'm finally an adult.

Damn no interest at all? That sucks. How old are you?

Im kind of mad at myself in the game department. I still have Bioshock 2 in the plastic when I bought it last year (360) and I have Spider man Shattered dimensions that I played for MAYBE a hour. I want to play badly. I also have metroid prime trilogy in the plastic, and now my GF got me back into WoW, so now, Im playing freaking WoW. So sad. My poor MAME cab hasnt been touched, and Im not even done configuring it, so I need to do that...Man. So many things, so little time. I also wanted to play Black ops and DKCR... My GF and I played Limbo off of XBL, that was pretty fun, but yeah, its really sporadic when I get to play. Kinda sucks, but you have different priorities when you get older I guess. Even though the urge to play is REALLY nagging at me at the back of my mind... :-[

My playing habits probably echo Howard's. I love games. Non stop 48+ marathon weren't that unusual for me when I was younger. I recall trying to see if gauntlet on the NES had an ending. I slammed through Zelda on SNES one Saturday and killed it on Sunday. Half-Life probably consumed my life from year dot until Valve released that  :censored: Steam crap. I practically inhaled games.until my ---smurfette--- of an ex decimated my collection sometime around the PS2/GCN era. I used to collect those special edition Gameboys with the printed artwork.

I think my game collecting slowed dramatically after my ex decimated my collection and my gaming dropped nearly to zero after Steam. Now that I have two very young kids and one older adopted one, my game playing is restricted to late nights and only for two hours at most. Assuming I even want to play. I find myself writing programs, repairing computers or working on something (not always cab related stuff unfortunately).

My three year loves video games but his motor skills aren't up to snuff so its mostly leapfrog stuff or those on the touch screen like Bubble Blaster or Angry Birds. He loves to watch me kill geeks in HL2 or Bioshock. He has this weird fascination with the Flowers demo so I might hook him up with it.

Is like to play more but I don't have nearly as much free time anymore. Along with kids and my addictions, its tough to find any free time.
