Post by: mytymaus007 on December 10, 2010, 04:52:01 pm
Anyone have preference to what Turbo Graphix 16 emulator works best with Hyperspin front end. magic engine seems to be annoying or I just dont have it configured correctly. I would post over there but they seemed to be down at this time. This is what i wanted to work on this weekend Since its cold here in NY :banghead:

When you say "run the exe", do you mean you just double clicked it, or did you try to run it per the author's instructions?  menafen is a command line only emulator, and it generates no output if you just run it with no arguments.  It works fine on Windows 7, I use it to emulate Virtual Boy.  The fact it's 32bit means nothing.  Even if you are running a 64bit OS, it can still run 32bit software fine.

mednafen doesn't have a gui (grahpic user interface), what I do to test games is drag a rom into the .exe.  That will launch the game and emulator. When you set it up through hyperspin (set up the directory to the exe and the rom directory) hyperspin will have no issues launching it.

When you are testing, you need to pres alt + shift + 1 to setup player one's controls (alt +shift + 2 for player 2) (you have to press each button direction 2x, this was done so you can have two things controlling player one, i.e. arcade panel and joypad).

If you want it fullscreen you need to go into the "ini" file and edit it. If you use 5 and 1 for start and select, then you need to edit the ini to not have 5 and 1 control the save states.

Remember, to test it by draggin the rom into the exe.

Mednafen is the most reliable emulator for several systems and lets you do fullscreen for some system including game gear and lynx (I think)

The documentation doesn't list GameGear, but it does do all the Gameboy's other than DS.

I could have sworn it allowed game gear, it doesn't hurt to try just to double check. I won't be able to check on my setup this weekend.

So far I was able to get Turbo graphix 16, GameGear and Gameboy advance to work with mednafen. I tried it with Lnyx but know luck. I put all roms from each system in the same folder the .exe was. All games were zipped. Also everyone worked except Gameboy Advance in hyperspin. Does anyone else know what other systems work with mednafen. So far im very happy! :applaud:

yup man, mednafen is a great emulator. I'm much more happy with it than mess. If mednafen started doing atari I wouldn't have to mess around with mess.

I tried mednafen over the weekend.  I like it, most of the roms play great, but  for some of the roms it just display a black screen and the debugger log is telling me that I'm missing .../cheats/pce.cht

I've looked around on Google and I can't find any pce.cht files.

I've got an XP and I'm using MaLa as front end, what can I do to fix this?

Thanks

I was told I will need Keywiz as well. I looked & there are a bunch of different ones. WHat should I go with? I don't want to be doing any soldering

I really like my ipac, I don't think either requires soldering. Plus the soldering would happen on the buttons, not on the ipac or keywiz. You put the wire in the hole, then tighten a screw to hold it in place.

Stay away from the Keywiz ECO and you will not have to solder.  IPACs are all good with either terminals or headers for a wiring harness depending on the model.

Pay $2 more and RandyT includes headers to plug into on the ECO.  If you go with the MAX version it includes really nice screw down terminals.
