Just wanted to see if someone here (Randy hopefully :lol) can confirm my set up please.. and you have to be a bit gentle with me, it's been a while since i have played with mame. :P
I am trying to add a pause and esc button on my cp, yeah yeah i know, not meant to be but when the wife calls you cause your 2yr old has done something that I have to deal with, i's needed .
I have this device http://www.groovygamegear.com/PDF/GP40_Eco_ST.pdf (http://www.groovygamegear.com/PDF/GP40_Eco_ST.pdf) and I can see pause is pointing at K. But where is esc Is this cancel which is pointing at J ??
I have since been into the gamepad (through control panel) to check that all buttons are working ok. I pushed the two im trying to use as pause and esc and they show being hooked up correct but don't work in game play.
I'm stuck, any help in getting this going would be great.
Thanks

This may sound silly, but have you assigned those buttons to function as pause and escape/quit in MAME? Since the GPWiz is a "gamepad", you need to define the gamepad buttons in MAME to what you want them to do. The suggested layout in that PDF doesn't mean anything. Unlike a keyboard encoder that may have terminals that send the Esc key or P key which are defaults in MAME, you have to map the gamepad buttons.

Ok, that sounds reasonable. I don't think this has been done tbh. Is this done through the .ini?

Maybe you can do it in a .ini file, but its much easier to reassign controls through the MAME menu. Hit tab while running a game and the go into the Input (general) section. I believe the functions you want to map are in there. Highlight the function, press enter, then press the button hooked up to your gpwiz.

Thank you my good man, this is now fixed from your advice. Wow, really has been a while since i played around with all this. Memory is very fuzzy.
Cheers
