Title: Another big USB hub for those in need
Post by: drventure on December 04, 2010, 07:56:15 pm
This one's at thinkgeek.com

I couldn't find any details about how big the power adapter is (ie can it REALLY power all 24 ports simultaneously), but this looks like a very affordable solution for needing more than just a few USB ports for a control panel.

Here it is for about $29. (http://www.chinavasion.com/product_info.php/pName/24port-usb-hub/)

Also, a 12 port USB 3.0 hub (http://www.chinavasion.com/computer-accessories/cvtkk133/) for ~$41.

Never liked Think Geek's huge markups.

Nice info about the usb 3.0 hub, but I'd imagine that'd be overkill for joysticks, trackballs, spinners, and keyboard encoders, right?

I'm just wondering more than anything. Given the speed of USB 2.0, I'd guess that'd be plenty for those kinds of low bandwidth devices.

I think USB1.1 is even more than enough just for human interface devices. :P

USB 3.0 is utter overkill for anything other than external data drives or possibly 802.11n USB adapters (and I haven't seen any USB 3.0 ones yet).

I just picked up a 10 port USB 2.0 hub tonight in Akihabara for 980 yen, or about $11.85 US. Also picked up 22 Sanwa buttons for ~$85, but I'll cry about that elsewhere. Never thought buttons could be so expensive!
