I'm working on two issues at once here. I've got a Dell PC with ArcadeVGA and a J-Pac connected to a New Astro City cabinet.
The J-Pac is passing video fine, but pretty much all my vertical games crash in MAME with an 'access violation'. I've been using a 5 year old build of MAME, so I'm currently transferring over .139 to see if it makes a difference.
The other issue is that the J-Pac isn't passing the cabinet controls to the PC. The J-Pac I have uses the PS2 connectors, and a PS2 to USB cable. I had the USB cable connected to the Dell PC I'm using, and had a regular keyboard plugged into the Dell PS2 port. This would cause the J-Pac test LED to flash once and stay on steady like it should, but using the cabinet joysticks and buttons won't show anything in notepad or work in a game.
I then took the keyboard out of the PS2 port on the PC and plugged it into the J-Pac passthrough, and the PC then booted with a keyboard not found error and the test LED on the J-Pac does not light at all.
I'm guessing both problems have simple solutions, but it's been so long since I've built a MAME cabinet that I'm struggling with them. Any help would be appreciated!

Looks like the newer version of MAME has fixed the crashing vertical games.
I still can't get the cabinet controls to work with the J-Pac however.

It would be best to drop me an email and we can look into the problem.

Thanks Andy, but I didn't want to bother you until I was sure it wasn't a simple problem on my end.
I just got back from the store with a male/male PS2 cable, and now it's working fine. It must either be a bad PS2 to USB cable, or something odd with USB or keyboard behaviour on the PC I'm using. I did plug in a USB mouse and it worked fine, so that's when I decided to pick up a PS2 cable. As far as I'm concerned the problem is fixed.
Thanks for offering the support Andy, vendors who go out of the way to help are a true asset to the hobby!
