I was hoping someone might be able to give me some ideas on what might cause this and how difficult it is to repair.
I'm looking at buying a midnight resistance cabinet. The owner states that it plays well, no problems except the monitor is dim. I'm just trying to decide if it is more of a problem than it is worth. He asking $150. firm.
Sorry I don't have more details to share at this time.

could be a few things.
could be just needing some adjustments, to needing some new caps, to needing a new tube.
without some pics or some info on the monitor itself, it's hard to say.
having said that, being it's a game that is 20 yrs old now, it might be needing some work done to it.

Thanks for the info.
Providing it is the display only not something on the pcb, I assume that subbing it out for a LCD monitor fix this issue.
-
being that the game itself is Standard resolution, an LCD may not be able to display it without a convertor.
-
-The front of the picture tube/back side of monitor glass could be very dirty
-Adjusting the brightness/ contrast/screen voltage might improve this
-The tube could be worn out, rejuvination *may* help...
-
sometimes you and turn up the color drive, but if the tube is weak your only going to add to the problem.
rejuvenation CAN help SOMETIMES, but be prepared to fry the tube. generally, if i'm throwing out a monitor tube, i'll try a rejuve... but i'm planing on killing it.

What kind of rejuvinator are you using? I've only killed one tube that was gone anyways...poor quality foreign made tube...
I have a Sencore CR70.

it's a BK
P.S. i start out being gental with the tube but if after a clean/rejuve cycle i don't see a marked improvement in the image, i'm hard as hell on the tube (intentionally) where's the fun in quitting after 1 try when you can try.... 25? ;D , but really, if i'm rejuving, it's last ditch before the dumpster, so if there isn't a marked improvement it's getting tossed in the bin. we must have 15 tubes at the shop here, if i toss one, it's just one less upstairs to trip over. no big deal.
