Title: Which software is best for a video "jukebox"?
Post by: BradC on December 02, 2010, 01:58:09 pm
I want to take a compact PC with a touchscreen and shove it inside a picture frame (or something that looks like a frame) which I can hang on the wall. On the PC I plan to load every episode of The Simpsons so that I can either play an episode, or have them all playing on a loop when I turn it on.

Is there a video jukebox software that will work well for this, and will be customizable? I want to be able to select from a list of Seasons and then choose an episode and have it display some info about the episode (description, original air date, perhaps a thumbnail) and then have the option to play it fullscreen and return to the menu when finished. I also want to be able to "play all" sequentially or randomly.

Is there something out there that sounds like it would be suited to this? I have been playing around a little in Java NetBeans to try and design a GUI myself but I'm not a Java expert so it's not going well. If there's already something out there like this it would save me the work.

Skip the PC. Just use a WD TV or so to drive it. Much cheaper, comes with a remote, and it just works.

Thanks for the tips.

I hadn't thought about a WDTV, but I really want something that will all fit together in a shadowbox/frame. Perhaps I could disect one and make it work.

WDTV are really small.   Much smaller than any PC.
