Title: Roms to Avi's in Mala
Post by: st graveyard on December 02, 2010, 09:38:18 am
Hey guys,

I have a question. Here is the deal. I've downloaded Genesis roms last week (Goodgen collection). I also downloaded the emumovies collection. I've noticed now that indeed the rom files do not match the emumovie avi files. So I tested the fuzzyrename program (a program to rename AVI/PNG to rom files). This things works great and yes, it could be a solution for the problem, however ... In the goodgens collection there are up to 5 versions of the same game, the fuzzyrename will make 5 avi files (of 1 original) with the same name as the rom. Very cool indeed. But in the end, this is a good solution when dealing with small png file, with avi files, the complete genesis avi collection will go from 2,9 giga to 15 giga :-)

So ok, while it delivers good results, I was just wondering how you guys deal with this? I find it a bit stupid to have 15 gigs of avi of which a lot are exaclty the same. So I was wondering if there is not some kind of plug in for MALA which can link movies with almost the same name as the rom to it? So that in the end, we save HD space and yet there is a movie linked to each version of the game in MALA.

Might goodmerging be a solution here? Does the work in MALA and with Emu's?

Anyone experience with this, or any ideas perhaps? I was just wondering...

Cheers,
Grave

Do you really intend to having every revision of every game available in your front end?

Just split out all the revisions/clones/etc you don't plan on using.

My suggestion would be to switch to no-intro for your roms, one of each, nice and clean, and you won't have to use a bloated avi set to make it all work.  Also if you use the emumovies download service it will audit to your roms and just download what you need and it renames automatically.  You don't have to do anything.
