Title: An arcade cabinet company installing U360s.....
Post by: Gray_Area on December 01, 2010, 08:27:47 pm
This is interesting. I just noticed an ad here at the bottom of the page for Magnum Arcade. Stock joystics are, apparently, U360s (http://www.magnumarcade.com/features/controls/joysticks/index.shtml). They also seem to be using WG monitors (http://www.magnumarcade.com/features/monitor/index.shtml), and a GGG spinner (http://www.magnumarcade.com/features/controls/dial/index.shtml) (although I don't know why they have a snap of Black Widow on the page).

It doesn't look like a bad cabinet, but I am not feeling the theme of the artwork. I guess the whole 2001: A space odyssey thing doesn't translate well to me to video games. The Ironman-esque astronaut posed menacingly on the CPO with wrenches in hand? I guess that works, however, the marquee gets to me. A full shot of Monkey-man butt hanging above player 1? It's like he's squatting to drop a shooter on Player 1's head at any given moment.

Suddenly, space-handyman is looking pretty cool.

Seems like a decent build... but when i see people selling these things for 4 grand it makes me think I need to go into buisness.

Cabinet seems unique it is metal and sprayed with truck bed liner.  I wonder what it weighs in at?

It looks like they said "What is the absolute ugliest way we could install the speakers?" then executed their plan perfectly!

I got the impression they were shooting for an automotive look.  At the very least, It's one less thing that needs to be custom fabricated... I guess.

Well, lets say that the name "Monolith" is probably pretty accurate. I am guessing it was designed by an automotive enthusiast. I think this is not a bad cab. Change the artwork up, get some more modest speakers, tweak the CP, and I think it would look a whole lot cooler.

The days of a multi-$1,000 cabinet are long gone.

I was just surprised they were installing U360s, stock. Everyone else charges the same few grand and puts twelve-dollar sticks in, claiming they're the best thing in the world for hunting wild animals in the night.

Yeah, the whole car speaker thing is just tacky. Maybe they drive big trucks though....OHHHH.
