Hey guys, I am working on a PS3 for a co-worker. The symptoms are it plays Blu-ray movies and dvds fine but it won't play ANY blu-ray games. I've replaced the lasers before but none of them would read any discs. I've read that it could be a corrupt file system but I don't want to format and restore if it's a laser (co-worker doesnt want to lose everything if possible) I also don't want to buy a replacement laser if it's a software thing. So, I am looking for someone that may have had the same issue and what they did to fix it.

Can you back it up to an external HDD over USB and then format it and then restore.... You wont loose anything that way, wouldn't hurt. Its always easier to fix software then to spend a ton of money fixing hardware that isnt broken.

I fixed it. I wasn't understanding the software fix info I was reading. It turns out that you don't lose anything. It scans the hard drive then just repairs the system files. I was under the impression that it would format it but it does not. All is working well now, thanks.
