Title: D-pad support in Dreamcast games
Post by: Don on November 19, 2010, 09:25:06 pm
Does anyone who has played a significant amount of dreamcast games know if the majority support the d-pad?

I plan on hacking some old PSX controllers for my control panel and then connecting them to the dreamcast using a PSX/PS2 to Dreamcast adapter. These controllers only have a d-pad though so want to know if you can use the d-pad instead of the joystick on most dreamcast games.

(The reason i'm hacking PSX controllers rather than dreamcast controllers is because there are a multitude of adapters available to connect PSX controllers to PC, XBOX, PS3 etc. should i want to change system)

Hey - yea, if you stick to arcade titles especially you are pretty well off. I hacked up some MadCatz controllers for my DC stuff while back and I have a big binder of like 40+ games that all work great with the D-pad. If you start getting into console platform stuff that starts depending on the analog.

All the shmups work fine with the pad.  I've got two hacked MadCatz dreamcast controllers, and of the games I've tested I only remember a couple driving games requiring the analog stick - Daytona USA being one of them.
