NOTE: I realize IPAC can be programmed - I just want a few dedicated Admin buttons.
I am doing the admin button wiring tonight, and I would like to know how that will work using an IPAC. And if I would need to change any MAME settings.
The front end I am using is ArcadeFX on Win98se.
The buttons will be behind the coin door on a Stern cab.
Can someone post a simple wiring diagram or explain clearly how the admin buttons will need to be wired up? My CP uses 2 joys w/6 buttons per player. 2 starts buttons and 2 coin buttons.
Admin Buttons I'd like to have:
-dedicated shift button for IPAC
-Tab
-Enter
-ESC
-Pause
I appreciate your help, in advance.

Here are my admin buttons, and how they are wired:
TAB
ENTER
ARROW UP
ARROW DOWN
ESC
Arrow up is wired to 1SW UP
Arrow dn is wired to 1SW Down
Enter is wired to 3SW 3 (?? I think that's default to Enter on an IPAC/4)
TAB is wired to 4SW8 and set manually in the iPAC config
ESC is wired to 4SW7 and set manually in the IPAC config
I was unable to get what I wanted out of the default MAME config on an ipac ... and incidentally, player 4 left is V... which is Player 1 SW 8 on an IPAC/4. The default MAME setup for an IPAC/4 leaves a lot to be desired... I'd recommend changing it via the setup utility. Even if you have an IPAC/2, programming it yourself will be helpful.

So basically:
1. Use the 'unused' buttons on the IPAC
2. Re-program the IPAC to make 1SW7, 1SW8, 2SW7, and 2SW8 equal Tab, Enter, ESC, and Pause?
Wow, if that is it...I will feel really dumb...I guess I just wasn't thinking...
thanks

Just that simple. I setup player 1 button 7 on my ipac as a dedicated ESC and button 8 as a dedicated pause (and shift key).

Is that the shift key on the keyboard or the shift key in the IPAC for the alternate commands?

Shift key on the IPAC.
You press the button that's labled as shift, then all the other inputs do the alternate shift stuff.
