Requesting pics of control panels with 7 button layouts. Or if you went with 6, feedback on how well this works for Neo Geo games.
Thanks!
-
I went with this layout and wouldn't change it for anything else:
1 2 3
4 5 6
7
This way, you have both, the SF2 and NeoGeo layouts. I have 2 and 7 hard-wired together so that I don't take up an extra input in my keyboard encoder.
-
Me too. I tested a few curved layouts on cardboard, but the standard felt the best to me.
-
Actually, mine is slightly curved, but I could not represented correctly with numbers on plain text.
The curve was designed for my own hand, so that my fingers would lay comfortably on the buttons, but everybody seems to find it comfortable and natural.

still requesting :pics!!!

I'll post a picture tonight, after I get home.
Now, I need to warn you, if you are feeble of heart, brace yourself.
I am the proud owner of what the pundits here would label as a "frankepanel", so I don't know if it will cause you, too strong of an impression when you see it. I assure you it is very docile and will not harm you.

This is probably the bazillionth thread covering this same question. :dunno
The 2 popular choices are standard SF (either straight or curved) and 7 button SF/NeoGeo (either straight or curved). If you go with 6 buttons and are concerned with NeoGeo, make sure you curve the layout so that the top 3 plus bottom left buttons make a usable NeoGeo 4-button layout.
For more info and TONS of pictures, you could try the search feature. Btw, not trying to be rude, just helpful!

There. I think the previous post, pretty much covers it.
My main button layout looks very much like this one (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=59359.msg586327#msg586327), from that post.
Saved me a trip to the basement.

yes I've read through that thread many times. My issue is I don't like the way 7-button layouts look, but I like the functionality. So I had hoped that someone had come up with a different 7-button layout that hadn't been posted in that thread. Apologies to the new thread police :P
Sooo in a different direction, it seems like 6 button layouts would have to be extremely curved to be comfortable with all 4 NG buttons. Do you guys find that's the case?
I'm looking at this one as an example with a natural curve. It looks nice but I'm imagining would be cumbersome to play:

Would you ever get used to the A+B being so vertically stacked?
-
I never much liked the Neo layuot. I'm too used to playing SF.
When I play KOF I use
A C
B D
This is the layout that KOF XIII uses I think.
For games like metal slug I use
A B C
D
Mostly I just play around with them til I find something that feels right.

i thought it only had 6 buttons
LP MP HP
LK MK HK

Have you looked at the layouts at Slagcoin? That's what I did. First I thought I would go with the standard capcom straight 6 street fighter layout, but then I printed out a few layouts and found that I really liked the Hori standard Japanese layout, and that I liked having a 7th button for the four neo-geo buttons as well as for the "run" button in MK3
I say go to http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/layout.html (http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/layout.html) and printout a few layouts to see what feels best to you.
-
I have the Standard Japanese arcade layout from slagcoin. When i play neo geo games, i use the three upper ones and the first one of the first line. It is not the exact same than the neo geo but it fits pretty well my hand.

LOL, I came into this thread thinking it was a parody of the Yie Ar Kung Fu nerd-fight.
