I have a 1-player bartop Mame cabinet with a USB port on the front for an optional 2nd player joypad. The 1st player's controls are fine. The 2nd player's controls keep partially resetting after I unplug the controller. I'm losing the joystick mappings (u,d,l,r). The buttons (a,b,c,d) are fine and stay mapped. How come I'm losing the 2nd player's joystick mappings? Can I specifiy them in an .ini file somewhere, and if so, how?

What plug and play control panel are you trying to use?

It's a Logitech controller. PS2-style.

I actually have this same problem in mame. What happens is when mame loads up with only 1 controller plugged in, it decides to forget that up, down, left, and right for the 2nd player were set to the hat switch. I have no idea why this occurs however the solution is quite simple. Load up mame with both controllers plugged in and set the controls. Exit out of mame and then go to the default.cfg file. Right click on it and select properties.... set it as read only. Now your controls won't change. :) This probably isn't the ideal solution but it works.
