Post by: chad1952 on November 16, 2010, 11:24:40 pm
Hi-I have an ami rowe 1991 100 cd player-we have both manuals-we have determined the laser is not firing as no light comes on when we put 6 volts to it-where can i find one? The book shows the full assembly but does not show the laser by itself-is it a phillips? I have pictures if required-Thanks in advance-Don

If the player is original, then you would have a philips CDM3 or CDM4 in there along with the associated mechanism controller. These players are long obsolete and parts to repair them have long since evaporated into neverland.

If your player is original then you must buy the player upgrade kit. The correct kit to order depends on the model of player presently installed in your machine. The kit includes a bunch of new parts: new mech control circuit board assembly, new player assembly, new wire harnesses, some new mechanical parts, and a new power supply board as the new player requires different voltages. The kit updates you to the latest Philips CDPRO2 player. Order the kit through the parts department of any Rowe distributor. There may be a distributor near you:

Granted, this kit is NOT cheap due to the number of new parts/assemblies included. Price is around $650 for it depending on the particular distributor you buy it from.

Here are the kit instruction manuals so you can see what is involved:

CDM3 to CDPRO2 kit:

CDM4 to CDPRO2 kit:

If your machine has already been upgraded to a CDM12 or CDPRO, then all you need to do is buy a complete CDPRO2 player. It's drop in plug n play compatible. If you have a CDPRO player, it can be repaired. Parts & repairs can be gotten here:

Hi Ken-Ouch-I am currently trying to sell it for $800-is it worth putting that kind of money in it and jack the price to $1500-lots of interest but only in running condition-should i sell as is for cheaper and let it go? Don
