Title: rubik's cube: Where do I go from here?
Post by: pmowry on November 14, 2010, 09:06:13 pm
I might just keep it this way Since I like how it looks.  But after solving the 1st and 2nd layers, I ended up with the top face complete, but 3 edge pieces out of place.  Where do i go from here?

You are close but not as close as you think.  You need to make a blue "plus" on top and then solve the corners.

A + or an H is how it usually ended up.  And here I was hoping it was "oh, you do these 3 twists and your done".  I'm suprised i like the way this looks.  I'm tempted to find a way to get all 4 edge peices out of place more than howe to solve it =)

Am I seeing an Orange side, but a Blue/Red piece?  So, there's a Blue/Orange on the back/right side?

I won't provide you an algorithm, but if you've got basic understanding of moves you can figure it out.

Holding the cube as pictured, you'll need to turn the orange face counter clockwise, then bump the blue/white piece out (left) to the middle layer, then return the orange face (clockwise).  Rotate the top as needed and move the blue/white piece to it's correct spot (occupied by the blue/red).  By doing that, you'll bump the blue/red piece out.

Rotate again as needed and then move the blue/red to it's correct spot (occupied by the blue/orange).  That bumps the blue/orange out.  Now all you have to do is put that one piece away and if you did it right, without unnecessary steps, you'll be done.

after you get the bottom completely right, and then the lower 2 levels correct, I believe you need to use formulas to solve the rest....

check youtube for videos...

Peel the stickers off, replace in correct locations.  Duh.

Never peel the stickers.  If you MUST cheat, pop the pieces out.  Stickers are never the same after.

You're at most 20 turns away!

Hehe, at 11 it was peel the stickers. At 14 it was take it apart. Now at 39 I want to do it the right way.

Do it right, right here

He actually updated that video and made it easier by breaking it down by steps:

Here's the first:
How to Solve a Rubik's Cube! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOgN7d1D-3s#ws)

Here's the step you need:
How to Solve a Rubik's Cube!: Getting the Blue Cross (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okEuogvZDmk#ws)

This is what I used to learn how to solve it.  Once you memorize the algorithms (there's actually not all that many), it's ridiculously easy to solve from any state.

Thanks, it shows me 40 moves away ;)

I found a java based cube I was playing with to solve it without much luck. When I get back to my PC I'll post the link here just to complement this solver.

Thanks again.
