Title: SFIV Madcatz TE sticks w/ mame - best solution for 4-way?
Post by: xodustrance on November 10, 2010, 05:52:00 pm
Just curious on how you get around the 8 way joystick thing with mame and 4 way games - I am in talks to have someone build some 4 way happ sticks - but if the expense can be reasonably avoided - I would love that.

Problem with 4 way games is the diagonal dead zones. I read on real arcade there is 4 way emulation with the newer versions of mame.

Any idea on how to get around this without investing the $400+ on two happ stick setups?

Newer versions of MAME do it automatically for the most part. Check out Mame Analog Joystick Map Editor (http://headsoft.com.au/index.php?category=mame&page=joymap) for making custom maps.

You could also consider Ultimarc U360's (http://www.ultimarc.com/ultrastik_info.html) which do this via hardware and are only $60 each. They also have a mouse mode.
