Xbox Kinect FAIL!!! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ux1FZpPKh20#)
doh!

Its funny. I dont think I look that spastic when Im playing my Wii... :dunno
-
Why'd she stop filming? It was just getting good!
-
All I know is Malenko would be in here complaining if he DIDN'T hit him.
I dont get it.
Anyways, I know back when I actually played the Wii I tried to stand as close as possible to the next person playing, as should everyone.
-
That looks like no fun at all.

There's a fighting game that looks like it would be HILARIOUS after a few drinks.

Its actually pretty fun - looks like they're playing the Kinect Adventures - probably the river rafting. I got my Kinect last night and was able to play around with it for about an hour. It came with Kinect Adventures, and I also got the sports game and the racing game - all are pretty fun once you get the hang of not having a controller. My wife and I had a real kick playing the racing game together - we were rolling laughing at times because it was so fun/funny! Oh, and one of the funniest things is that after each "game', you get to see pics that were snapped of you playing in front of the controller - some of those are hilarious!
It will be interesting to see how well the entertainment value holds up once the novelty of not using a controller at all wears off, and I can say that there is a lot of room to improve the sensitivity / responsiveness especially in menus and navigating through the game options. For the most part, once you're actually IN the game, its really good. Also, the inconsistency in how different games navigate menus is a bit annoying, but i'm sure they'll get better.
I'm a bit bummed that I can't play in my home theater since you need quite a bit of space in front of the screen and my front row of seating is in the way. I had to move my Xbox360 to the livingroom to play - not nearly as cool (46" screen vs 92" projector), but still fun!

I dont think games that encourage contorting your body in whatever way your reflexes tell you to is a good idea. Just take regular fitness machines for example. THere are proper ways to use them and then improper ways that can lead to RSI, etc...

C'mon, you never leaned in the proper direction or pushed that 2600 joystick a little harder to make things happen faster?

My mom fell off the couch playing Super Mario Kart years ago.

Big diff between that and jumping 'n flailing around to spike balls, etc...

You've never seen me play Sonic...

Funny thing is, if we're playing a racing game with normal controllers my wife moves about the same amount as with Kinect!

Guy at work who's a legal immigrant has his controller all over the place. It is constantly veering off in different directions as he plays. Quite hilarious. Until the thing starts getting in your own field of vision. :)

This is one of the things folks need to be very careful about with this tech. The on-screen character mirrors your movements so well, it's easy to become so engrossed in the game environment that you kind of lose track of your physical surroundings. When that's coupled with the fact that a large space is really required for two people, and many will push those requirements to the bare minimum, then stuff like this is inevitable. I feel for the kid who got the elbow to the face. That looked really painful.
Lisa and I were playing bowling and she was worried she was going to smack the dog. Missed him once by about 2 inches :)

Apparently it has been hacked so can we expect DDR or Mame shooters soon? Just kidding there are alot of valuable apps that can be written for the kinect when connected to a PC running windows or linux.

Apparently the thing is going to be valuable in DIY robotics due to distance finding and movement detection. Most things are probably still to come but I'm sure it can be used as a multi input sensor for alot more.

Pair it with a hologram generator for Minority Report style computing...
