Technically, it's NOT supposed to play home made/copied CD's. It's illegal in the USA.

I think it's the player itself. Replacements are expensive. I have a box of them I will have to test.

It does find the cd but will play them for about a week and then will not recognize them.  I'll pull, clean and reinitialize and the work for about the same time period.  Also unplugged unit for a day and now it does not play cd's.  It lays them on the player but they are not recognized. 2:  How often do you need to clean the disc?   Thanks for any help.

You should only need to clean the CD's about once a year. When you clean them make sure you wipe from the center out, never around in circles. You can scratch them and the reader may tend to have problems. Try cleaning the reader lens itself. Use rubbing alcohol and a cue tip. A back and forth motion in the direction the discs spin. BE VERY CAREFUL! DON'T PUT A LOT OF PRESURE ON THE LENS!!!! Too much pressure can ruin it! But, burnt discs are much harder to read and it may just be the burner you are using. Are all the commercial CDs playing fine? If so the problem probably isn't the juke box. If you have it in your home burnt CD's are no big deal. If you have it out on location be careful! Those are some serious fines if caught!!!
