Title: Nintendo 4 way joystick
Post by: pinballwizard79 on November 06, 2010, 02:30:37 pm
So I am building a new control panel right?

I have a Tornado Terry 4 way but its too long of a throw for me (its much better than a 8 way tho dont get me wrong) & I was thinking of getting one of these: http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=TKG-23-50 (http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=TKG-23-50)

Any thoughts? Is that the route to go if I want that super short old school arcade throw? I know there will be some router work required to mount this.

What about this: http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=JOYBBMS4W8WS (http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=JOYBBMS4W8WS)

Is that joy like the same except plastic?

I have no clue, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Nintendo Reproduction 4-way Joystick w/ 30mm ball top is very loose its only good for nintendo games that used it originally Donkey kong popeye puch out I have one specifically for those games. If you want a 4 way for all games I use an original midway Pacman 4 way leaf switch for mine 100% accurate. To get better answers you need to be more specific in your question.

The two joysticks linked to will be different and will feel different. For a start the original Nintendo stick has that little ridge on the shaft just below the ball top. You can see it on the first pic.

I just attended a retro gaming expo this weekend and got to play on an original Donkey Kong cabinet. The joystick felt really good for that game. I'm even thinking of buying one of those DK reproduction control panels with that stick to make a small Mame-In-A-Box type thing just to play DK and DK Jr.

So the expensive Nintendo 4 way had a shorter throw?

Does the OG midway 4 way leaf have the same throw as the Nintendo joy or is it slightly more but still less than the Tornado Terry 4 way?

Thats what I want, a shorter throw than my Tornado Terry 4 way & if the Midway can accomplish that for half the cost then I will go that route.

Thanks

If I was you i would buy all the joysticks you want install them and figure what works for you. This is the problem with so many choices of sticks plus thousands of games. Buy them if you dont like it sell here or on ebay. If your on a budget theres always Xarcade or logitec game pad :dunno :dunno :dunno :dunno :dunno

The midway has a different feel then the nitendo. 1st its leaf switch the nintendo is microswitch. You'll be happy with the midway overall. I have both but use the midway because it on my main CP. Donky kong play 100% accurate. But if you want original feel then you need the Ninendo stick. Forget about Tornado Terry 4 way Unless you never try the other sticks then get the tornado terry 4 way because you wont know what your missing.
