Anyone here think this yoke could work with a MAME Star Wars Arcade?

These do not work the same way. They push in and out, rather than handles that rotate. It would make it 10x harder to play starwars using this thing.
There simply is no good substitute for the original controller.

Are you asking why a honest vendor hasn't made a Star Wars flight yoke controller yet or do you mean something like this (http://files.arcadecontrols.com/details.php?image_id=3586)?

Just get this bro:

Yeah it's expensive, but worth it. There is no substitute for a real SW yoke to play Star Wars.
-
Don't they produce only 1 every decade or something?
-
Took him a while to get them done, but he did get them done and is shipping them now.
I have a USB yoke adapter from him that I am using on my upright machine and it works great.

+1 and for Xiaou, that's a rare one.
You cannot consider yourself any degree of an Atari or Star Wars fan and honestly convince anyone that anything other than the real deal or a faithful replica be adequate.

SavannahLion,
Thanks.. but I do find it Funny ,cause just a few post back you said I was Way Off-Base, and then went on to repeat nearly everything I had posted.
So many people are so clouded in their own perceptions, that they often dont even see the reality that is sitting right in front of them.
Anyways, I also find it somewhat Ironic that many people who praise sacrifice of certain controller options, who are a bit clueless on the differences at times..., "Do" know the value of a real Starwars controller.
You can play Starwars with a mouse, trackball, analog joystick.. but they all stink compared to the mighty SW Yoke. Feel, Control, Accuracy. That yoke design really made that game the great success it became.
(just as Race Drivin sit-down controls, made that game a huge success. No shifter feels & works as good, no wheel as realistic and powerful, and even proper brake resistance on the pedals. Simply A masterpiece of engineering)
IMOP, not enough people realize the importance of specialized game controllers, and all the hard work and genius that went into them. Sadly, after a certain year, all machines shifted to generic crap that felt and controlled horrible. Then again, the generic games stunk too... so it hardly mattered. :'(

And yeah, it's posts like this that prove you're a moron. To avoid hijacking this guys thread, I'll keep my counter argument short. You cite two reasons. I cited four. You claim your reasons are the "major" ones. I countered that by stating that wasn't entirely true. To continue this, take it back to the other thread.

Tell that to the people STILL coming out of the woodwork without their yokes... there is a post over at KLOV.

I find it funny that you managed to screw up a compliment.
So many people are so clouded in their own perceptions, that they often dont even see the reality that is sitting right in front of them.
And thats the reason you shouldn't even bother discussing things with those types of people. If you are arguing with someone who is unable to see reality, or at least the same reality as you, than who's the bigger tool? Them for being unable to share your perspective, or you for arguing with them?
The world is big enough for multiple opinions and complex enough for differing perspectives. Trying to change someones view of what they see as reality? Thats foolish and you're foolish for trying.

Personally, I want one of the repo controllers, but I'm not buying one till I own a star wars machine. Talk about a rare bird...

You better order the yoke now so that when you find a cabinet in a few years, you may have the controller.
-
Dave @ RAM Controls is a stand up guy, we're all lucky to have his hat in the ring. I wouldn't hesitate to order a yoke if I needed one. Last Items I ordered from him were of superior quality and they arrived 26 hours after I ordered them. He then followed up with an email after the package was delivered to make sure everything was ok. Thats unbeatable service.

26 hours eh? Thats from the moment you ordered to when it arrived? I assume it wasn't a star wars yoke?
-
Yes, from the moment I placed the order, to the time it arrived at my doorstep. To be fair, not a yoke. A missile command trackball rebuild kit. Doesn't change the fact that there would be NO star wars yoke if he didn't make one. But this yoke subject has been trolled to death, in other threads. I dont want to get involved. I think the game star wars is pretty boring anyway.

Your lucky I have a policy of trusting flavored primates.

And pray tell what good is it to make and sell Star Wars yokes if you collect the money now and then take YEARS to ship them and then during that time you lie multiple times with fake shipping dates? If I ordered a Star Wars yoke today from him, would I get the yoke in 2010, 2011 or 2012? How many fake shipping dates would he give me before the yoke really ships? With his kind of shipping record please forgive me for only ordering from vendors that collect my money and ship what I ordered in a REASONABLE amount of time...

They've been cropping up on Craig's list as of late in my area. I think the lowest I spotted was around $600.
Damn it. If it wasn't for those kids and those damn diapers.... :hissy:
edit: I lied, it's $500 (http://sacramento.craigslist.org/for/2041224660.html)

Well.... Uh, apparently I opened a can of worms for some reason unknown to me. Anyway guys, thanks for the feedback.

The can of worms was opened long ago. You just gave reason for us to bicker again (not that we need it).
Check out this link and you'll see why some of us are a little jaded:

I see.... Think I'll set this one out.

I'm enjoying my Ram Controls yoke...
:D
-
I definitely want a yoke and would happily order a Ram one...but tbh I am leery after all the conversations about it here. Hoping someday to get an original.
-
My question is can I use a Star Wars yoke with an IPAC device and it work?
-
If you mean an original Star Wars yoke (with the pots), no it won't work right with an I-PAC. I do believe you can use an A-Pac (http://www.ultimarc.com/a-pac.html) with the yoke though.
-

Not possible.
Yes the A-Pac should work but then you will have to hack stuff up to get it working.
Ram Controls has a special SW USB interface made just for this purpose, no hacking your SW yoke to get it working with mame!
And someone else said they are waiting to buy a "real", old yoke-well then you will end up buying the Ram Control SW yoke rebuild kit, as your old yoke will prolly not be in minty shape.
-
I think the game star wars is pretty boring anyway.
Really? Like, for reals??

What other games have you tried with your SW yoke?
-
Just the Star Wars games so far. It's still on my test bench. I've got to get up off my butt and finish the control panel for my Mame machine. I'll tell you what though, once you dial in the analog settings this thing is like butter! I used to play the mess out of the original, and even recently have played on original equipment (cockpit Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back) and it is definitely superior.
I've got a Road Blasters panel which the yoke mounts to perfectly, and I just need to cut the MDF which it will mount to. Probably in the next week or so I'll head over to Harbor Freight and pick up one of those heated scrapers to get the overlay off and finish the job before it gets too cold out.

Awesome. Keep us posted on which games work with the yoke.

I have a MAMEd Star Wars cabinet, and SW, Empire, and Jedi work great, and Paperboy also works. Roadblasters however doesn't perform so well. Apparently, RB uses optical 270 degree steering. I have tried tweaking the analog settins in MAME, but I cannot get it just right.
One solution would be to recompile MAME to let RB use analog (I have not tried this).
Another solution would be to attach an encoder wheel to the inner axle of the yoke and install an optical encoder. I have not tried this either, but I believe someone on BYOAC has. If I try this soon I will post the results.

could someone with this repro post some pics of how this mounts?
i just recently sold my star wars upright (made 2 grand!) and am thinking of adding this repro controller but i'd like to add it as an easily removable option.
thinking of making my trackball a modular pop out and then have the yoke pop into it's place. ideally i'd like to just have the yoke module fit OVER the trackball so i wouldn't have to remove the TB. thinking of four small holes around the trackball. the sw yoke mounted to a piece of wood (with a hole cut out that the TB would fit into) with 4 metal pins that would pop into the holes around the TB.

If you want to go on the cheap... look at the twisty grip. google it, there are plans online. Basically its made out of pvc.
I've never made one, and have an orginal starwars yoke. I don't know how they compare. I'm guessing that the feel is off, but the range of motion should be similar.

Saint, I apologize for not including the moving picture and linking straight to where the guide can be downloaded.

In my opinion after trying to yokes on the cheap.....in the end all the time and money wasted on a cheaper yoke, you may actually be money ahead to buy a RAM controls yoke ( if you are trusting enough, or can wait...and wait...and wait), or buying a old beat up ebay original yoke. I made the twisty.... and it is less than spectacular and not something you want mounted to a nicely built cabinet, may be ok if you you just pull it off a cabinet and connect it occaisiobnally to your desktop pc to play a game or two.
Thats just my $0.02
