Does anyone have experience with this monitor? X-Arcade is advertising this as the replacement to the now discontinued 27" CRT monitors from Wells.
-
I talked to WG recently and they do look promising, though I have yet to see one in action. You might want to wait, though, as next year they will have a 27'' 4:3 drop in replacement LCD that does CGA/EGA/+ as well. Thats according to a sales rep, anyway.
-
Not to be stupid about this...but the problem with the current 26" lcd is the aspect ratio will make my classic MAME games look wrong?
-
True enough. But again, they said sometime next year they are bringing out a 4:3 (fullscreen) 27'' LCD. Same mounts and all.
Could be a good (or maybe the only) option for a future replacement a few years down the road.

Not to sound like an idiot, but what is so special about these WG LCD monitors that they are worth spendings hundreds for when I can go get a decent LCD from newegg for much less? I mean at the end of the day they still have the problems of no phosphor, natural scan lines and low dot pitch that is what gave classic titles and CRTs their charm.
-
They are overpriced, IMO, but the difference is that their new LCDs can accept those low res signals (CGA).
-
To answer solid12345 question
A new lcd from newegg will probably be a 5:4 not a 4:3.
-
I confirmed with Wells that they are indeed coming out with a 27" LCD but it won't be released until mid next year. I think this is great news. For now, I'm going to make my cabinet with the 26" widescreen LCD which has nearly the same width as a 27" 4:3 so retrofitting down the road should not be an issue.
-
Cool news. Thanks for confirming that.
Not authentic, but frankly we have no choice. Ulness you score an actual arcade machine.
Still, looking forward to it. Probably end up getting one.

I traded emails with Wells Gardner back in August when I bought my D9800. The rep I talked to said that any future LCD solution would be wide-screen and would cost more than the D9800.

Hey, came across this thread - great timing as I am looking to buy a flat screen after giving up trying to fix my 25" crt. Cap kit, new chassis, donor tube, way too much effort - even shocked the SH*T out of me a few times. the thing does not want a crt....
So, what brand, size, etc you guys going with? I got the cga converter from Jamma and have been using my pc monitor - I'm ok with it....
Also, anyone get or make a new bezel?
Suggestions on mounting?
Thanks - I will post pics as I do my conversion for others unless someone already has done so - please post a link!

Bumping this one up as I'm now on the fence about a WGF2679-SSAS25H 26" lcd as well. I can't really find the actual dimensions of the screen itself.

I've been stumped on the monitor for a while, but it seems this one is the perfect solution: 4:3, 26", not too expensive, has mounting and bezel HW available.
Does anyone know what's needed to get this to work with a PC Mame? Will I need to do any software or hardware configuration to get it to sync to the right resolution for C, E, S, VGA? What input does it use, and will I need to buy a special graphics card?
