I can't figure out what causes it, but while playing my Mame machine, my kids always seem to hit some crazy combination of keys to do things like constantly pull up the volume menu at the bottom of the game. So when they run left, the volume goes down to zero and when they move right, it gets increasingly louder. My solution isn't a reasonable one by exiting the game and restarting, especially when they are on the 4th level of Bucky Ohare... Any idea? sometimes they make one of the buttons make the monitor go black too. I'd like to know where to turn off the ability to bring up these menus. I am using a jpac with the standard button configurations. Any ideas? Thanks!

While in game......
press TAB>Input(General)>User Interface>In Game Controls
Volume is mapped to the tilde ~
highlight it, press delete to have no buttons mapped to it
or press enter and the press the new button you want mapped to it.
Not sure which one would be causing the black screen.

that is why I use a keyswitch to enable the service buttons (tab, esc, volume, etc)
The kids can't accidentally do anything, except play the game.
Strongly suggested to anyone with toddlers.

Thanks guys. Yes, 6 and 4 year olds are the culptrits, so that is good advice to lock down certain keys.
My mame setup is a standalone arcade cabinet and there is no keyboard and just 15 buttons and 2 joysticks for the kids to manipulate. I don't understand how the tilde key can get entered from a jpac on the standard settings. I have never custom mapped the jpac, but Is there some sort of combination of keys using arrows and CTRL and spacebar that can produce a tilde? Is this just a Jpac issue that sometimes combinations produce random keys?

Looks like the kids are holding P1 (the default shift key) and pressing up.

How do I disable the shift function in my iPac? My kids do this ALL THE TIME and it makes me mental.
