Title: Do I Need Anything Else To Mount My Joysticks?
Post by: LiquidFlame on October 14, 2010, 04:31:04 pm
This should hopfully be a quick question.  I'm planing on getting 2 Happ Competition joysticks, and I plan on getting my CP from here: http://www.arcadedepot.com/HTML/control_panels.html (http://www.arcadedepot.com/HTML/control_panels.html)  Besides getting carriage bolts, do I need anything else special for mounting the joysticks.  I've seen mounting plates for joysticks but it seems like people only use those for wood CP.

I think so long as you get the little plastic circles around the base of the stick your good to go

I've built 2 cabs using those panels, I didn't use carriage bolts for the sticks (Happs on 1 cab, the other had Ultimarcs), I used pretty thin (1/8" or so) machine screws with little bolts and lock-washers on the botton, they've never budged. I did paint the screw heads black so they aren't as shiny. Carriage bolts are usually pretty thick, no?  With squared-off tops?  Those wouldn't work well for this unless you filed the holes in the panel to be square (unless I'm thinking of something else...) In any case, a trip to any hardware store will yield plenty of obvious options, it's pretty much a slam-dunk with those panels.

Happ Comps are meant for wood, not metal.  I'd probably install a piece of wood to sandwich in between the metal cp and the joystick before bolting them in.  Pretty simple to do.  I'd make them 1/2 inch.  Or else they will be too tall.

Or you just go with the Sanwa JLW joysticks (meant for metal panels).

Good luck!
