Just checking... has Andy announced exactly WHEN an Aim Trak "complete" plug-n-play solution will be available? Last I heard it was January... it's a little after January.
EDIT: Oh yeah... and is it working "properly" with Windows XP x64 these days?
-
off topic, but if I just glance at your picture it looks like a ghostbusters proton pack.
-
Would really like this information too. Have been holding off getting the jpac but if it's going um be a while I might just do it now
-
I've heard 'a few weeks' for many weeks myself.
-
We have not been rushing on this I admit, the main reason being the kits take only a few minutes to assemble and are proving popular.
In order to get the assembled version produced economically this requires a large purchase and this is still in progress although no definite date.
The gun has always worked with XP 64.

Well Andy... i have no time to toy with MAME gadgets these days... I have too many "dedicated" video and pinball projects on the table. If/when a plug-n-play solution is ready, I will be buying... and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed that it's not available already (as it was promised in January). Will I live? Sure will. But I won't like it. ;)
So you have 2 sold when they're available (Depending on price it may be 1+1 or just 2 out the door).

I'm in the exact same situation as Frizz. My mame cab gets very little of my attention these days with many dedicated cabs needing attention here and there. So I too am holding out for the complete solution because I just don't want to deal with figuring out which shells to get and then assemble them. I'm disappointed that this is a low priority at this point. You'll have another 2 ordered by me when they are available though.

Well... not sure what you mean exactly. There is no need to figure out what shells to get as we sell the complete kit including shells. Its only a matter of ordering the kit and then 10 mins assembly.
But.. I hear what people are saying and will try to accelerate the assembled kits. In fact there is no real barrier to this, we could assemble some complete units here.
There is one other reason though why I was holding back, I am not sure what will happen with certain countries customs if we ship a complete very gun-like item!

The smart customs officers will be able to see it is not a real gun but they also have stupid customs officers...
Andy, on a side note I clicked "More Info" on the gun in the store and I get a 404. It links to http://www.ultimarc.com/aimtrak_gun.php (http://www.ultimarc.com/aimtrak_gun.php) but apparently that page isn't there yet... ;D

That page hasn't been assembled yet. We'll E-Mail you when it's done.

Legit question... though the Chinese have been doing it without issue for quite some time... they're selling PS/XBOX crap all the time.

have you guys looked at the kit installation guide? there's hardly anything to it. everything is ready to be hooked up. it will take you longer to mount the LED bar in your cab than it will to install the kit in the gun. don't let this stop you from ordering the kit.

It does seem simple... but I'd rather spend that 10 extra minutes working on my Golden Tee Fore/Silver Strike 2007 cab... or the Multi-Taito cab that's been on the back-burner for months... or the Xenon pin I am almost done with.
It's about priorities. MAME is low down the list. When a plug-n-play solution pops up... I'm in. BTW... I'm hoping the plug-n-play solution includes simple mounting for the light bar as well... I just don't have enough minutes in my day to be dinking around with MAME much any more.

You might want to steer clear of light guns altogether then as there is much dinking around in MAME to get them calibrated and working after the hardware installation is done. You've got to calibrate the gun, set options in MAME, and remember to do the native, in-game calibration for each game IF it is required. I haven't gone through this yet, but it sounds like it aint easy to get guns going on a MAME cab, especially if your expecting to hook guns up and start shooting.
Aim track help me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0ZiSGUekOM#)
I think this guy had the windows cal done right, but the ingame cal wasn't ever done. When he shoots onscreen, the aimtrak would tell MAME he was onscreen, but since he never did the ingame cal, it doesn't know where to put the shot. If he shoots offscreen, the aimtrak senses it and tells MAME and all is ok. I'm just guessing here as to what his problem is, but you have to expect to deal with these sorts of non-intuitive issues. It's just the nature of using hardware that's a level away from the emulation.
-
I suppose it's all up to how much you want it. If having guns on your cab is worth it for you, you will take the time to get it set up correctly.
For me it is totally worth it. I haven't started building yet, but I have incorporated guns into my design - gone so far as to have planned some nice looking gun holsters into my cab. I will spend the time to make them work, and from what I hear it's not that big a deal calibrating guns... but then again, installing new hardware in windows is never the same experience for everybody! It's rarely even the same experience twice lol.
-
I've had a pair of guns set up for a few years and they generally work fine. I don't think I ran the in-game calibration for anything, but there are a couple games that never worked right (probably related). In my opinion, gun games are definitely worth it...but definitely a pain in the ass to get and keep working. I don't have a trackball, but I imagine it's probably a similar thing (once you have it, you wouldn't be without it).

You can't spare 10 minutes? You might need to pull yourself away from byoac a little bit.

It's retribution for Saint doing it to him a couple of weeks ago. :)

He's just mad because I haven't paid him since... um... well... never.

Saint is FAAARRR (for some reason spell check doesn't like the way I spelled far.) from being stupid. I was agreeing with the blasphemy call.

I either forgot that the shells became available or missed it somehow. However, I think I recall discussion of you eventually having lens covers for the nose of the gun. True? What about holsters? I think that's been asked for before, and without holsters I'm sure the guns would end up on the ground for lack of a better place to put them. Again, I'm sure I could find holsters elsewhere but it's a matter of preferring a complete kit so I don't have to go hunting here or there for compatible items to make it a finished solution.
Also, going to your store I'm left wondering what is missing from the shell kit since it's the same price as the shell-less kit. Is the light bar not included? And if I want 2 guns, how do I get the second without another light bar?
