Check this Behemoth out!
XBOX Live (XBLA) Game of the Year, Castle Crashers by The Behemoth (http://www.thebehemoth.com/). These guys built a huge 4 player cabinet for expos and gaming conventions such as PAX East and extreme. They wanted Melissa to do her thing with the 6ft tall sideart, she was happy to oblige.

Noticed that you use Aspire, what CNC you using? Home-built or a pre-built system?

rbarr, we use a Shopbot PRT 96 and Aspire. They have both been pretty good to use!

Great work!!! :applaud: That Castle Crashers work is going to look awesome on the side of their cabinet.

Thanks so much! We're excited to see it.
How about the fact that an award winning modern console game developer builds a retro style cab to present it at the show?
-
WOW
:notworthy:
-
It looks really cool un-painted. Like stone.
-
Holy crap! :o
Awesome work by the missus! :applaud:

I am always super-impressed when I look at Melissa's work. She is really talented. This looks awesome.

You guys are awesome. I cherish all of my original carvings by Melissa!
Looks like she's getting a break from the hard work of hand carving these things from scratch. You guys have gone high tech!
Fantastic job.

Found some pics of the (seemingly) completed cab. I think it could have used some graphics behind the characters instead of just the gray but the characters themselves look great. The button layout looks odd though.

The game its self is fantastic too and just begs to be played with arcade controls.

From their mock up it looks like they had planned on graphics in the back ground so maybe it's not complete and they just rushed to get it ready for the show?

It doesn't look finished due to the marquee lighting panels, and side-panels showing the exposed wood on the inside.

Bad ass side art!!!!!!!!!!
It’s just to bad that game is pretty boring :-[
-
True 3-D side art!! ;D

Considering all of the hard work that Melissa put into those carvings, I find it very disappointing to see the rest of the cabinet in such an incomplete state. Unless this was a set of pics from a pre-show, there's no excuse to show the public the unfinished work. (Personally, I'd demand the carvings back and build up a cabinet myself - just to show them how it's done.)
Amazing work - on the carvings!
:o
Edit: Just read the subnote from the OP: "Word has it that the cab wasn't complete for PAX in Seattle, but will be polished nicely for PAX East and we will be sure to update with pics of the actual cab at that time."
Damn, it better be.
-
I don't know the game, so perhaps it makes sense....but WTF is with those controls?! It looks like Asteroids and an MVS got together and puked buttons all over the place!
-
The sideart is king, but the marquee artwork is terminally boring.
-
Why is that guy wearing a road cone with a Plants VS Zombies zombie on it?
-
Simply awesome.
-
Fantastic!
Oh, and your wife's hot still!
*Runs*
-
Amazing craftsmanship & design on that sideart!!!

PS--I just watchd a YouTube clip & immediately recognized it as a game by the Alien Hominid guys. AH is a great great (and haaard) game! I went to their booth @ Comic-Con several years ago & bought AH for PS2 & got a set of AH figures--the guys were really nice & signed both products.

Thanks!! This was another awesome job!! I was a little disappointed that the cabinet wasn't completely finished, but I know that they had a very short timeline to get it done and shipped. I did get a break from hand carving on this job. :applaud: But the sanding and the painting was still a lot to get done in such a short amount of time. I didn't get much sleep that week!!
Thanks again guys!! I love when I get a chance to make arcade related carvings, they are sooo much funner then most of the signs I make lately!!

what ya talking about!? That game is the funnest beat 'em up since teenage mutant ninja turtles and the simpsons. You have to play it with 4 people in person though.. me and my friends had a blast.

Why is that guy wearing a road cone with a Plants VS Zombies zombie on it?
Plants vs Zombies had a big booth/room set up during Pax and was distributing a lot of promo merchandise. Those hats were everywhere.

OMG!! :o
Love the carvings!! I absolutely need some for my cabinets! Heading over to your site right now!!
