What the hell? SyFy is now showing WWE Smackdown! What the hell is going on here?!?!?!
-
They've been showing wrestling for a long time. At least three years from what I can recall, maybe even longer. Usually on around 9ish or later.
Not that I don't like wrestling, but those ---smurfing--- morons execs have been trying to expand their crap lineup to entice non-scifi fans. You did notice the not-so-subtle-yet-lame name change?
-
Yea I noticed, I only watch when a SG1 or Sliders marathon is on anymore.... and on the New Years Twilight Zone Marathon.
Stargate Universe wasn't that bad.
-
Well, it is fiction.
Arguably, there's science involved - steroids, statics and dynamics...
-
I didn't like SGU at first because of that idiot "shakey cam" every show today seems to think is necessary. I actually got nauseous the first three episodes or so.
I missed a couple of episodes, but SGU's plot seems to be improving in the new season. Not anything like SG1 or SGA, but it's better than nothing and definitely miles better than SGI.
I used to love Sliders right up until the show was reduced to nothing more than Slider vs Kromagg nonsense. At least Quantum Leap jumped the shark in a more subtle way.
-
Sliders is probably one of my favorite shows of all time. I'm glad I have all 4 seasons are on DVD (Yes I am ignoring season 5 on purpose ;D. I started watching the first episode of S5 on Netflix and had to turn it off very quickly.)
-
*sigh*
SyFy is the sister network to USA. Also its nothing new, they used to air ECW like 3 years ago.
-

I always figured that was so they'd actually show up in search results.
:dunno
That channel has sucked since it began.
It had great potential and had some really good original work and ran some good shows. Unfortunately, those were the gems instead of the norm. UPN was running a better mix of SF type of shows back when SciFi was starting out.
SciFi's adaptation of Dune, for instance, was excellent. And of course, the new Battlestar was a hit. Unfortunately, Crocodile Octopus Whores and wrassling ... not so much.
-
They started showing the watered-down WWE version of ECW back in 2006, just after the second "One Night Stand." So it's been four years.
Never cared for it. The original ECW was so much better than what they were presenting.

There was a newspaper article back when it happened. The official statement by the execs was to make it less "geek" and more appealing to those who weren't really into SciFi.

Looks like a lot of people don't like the wrestling (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Syfy-tv-channel/209120070388?v=wall&story_fbid=150507834989181)
SyFy really takes it to a whole new low:
Sharktopus (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1619880/)
Dinocroc vs Supergator (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1453409/)
Mega Piranha
Megafault
Ghost Hunters (I seriously do not believe that that much so-called paranormal activity can ever happen to a group of people, even if they visit every single haunted place on the planet and even if such a thing truly existed)
I could probably go on and on with how many crap movies they feature now.
In the next five or ten years, the execs are going to reach either an epiphany on how stupid their line has become and "reset" the station back to what made it popular in the first place or they're going to get rid of the last dredges of what made the station popular and they're going to become nothing more than a Desperate Housewives wannabe. I'll bet money I already know which direction they're going.
-
Dumbing down of America + people switching to downloading / streaming, or paying for quality like HBO. That leaves a whole lot of other channels desperate for viewers with a rather low bar to appeal to.
-
SyFy has a lot of shows, they just aren't on friday anymore.
Current lineup:
Haven (Based on Steven Kings the Colorado Kid)
Stargate Universe
Eureka
Warehouse 13
Sanctuary
The problem is syfy isn't a big network so that's all the original programming they have aside from stupid no-budget shows like ghost hunters and beast legends. They have to fill the gaps with something.... so sharktopus it is!
And as the others have said, syfy is the sister network of usa and usa networks got smackdown for cheap. It started on UPN, was transferred to cw when they merged, got dropped from cw... was picked up by some other network (can't remember which) got dropped again and picked up by myZ, which I'm pretty sure isn't a real network, and finally ended up on syfy. Like it or not wrestling brings in big ratings... not network big or even cable big, but syfy channel big.
I don't like it either, but I can certainly understand their logic in the matter. Syfy needs a ratings boost and smackdown was cheap.

I can think of better ways to spend 20 or 30 million dollars ;)

Guess its no different than when G4 stopped showing week long marathons of the same XPlay episodes and started showing month long marathons of the same episodes of cops.
-
Please don't mention G4.
It conjures up memories of my beloved Tech TV,
which they killed and took a dump on the corpse of.

I hear you. Tech TV was awesome. I wish there was a network like that now. They were truly ahead of their time.

He "got famous" with Carrie, his first book. He wrote PLENTY of good books after that. His writing went downhill after his accident.
As for Colorado Kid, it is a whole different level of bad.

I remember when SiFi used to show manga..............

Seeing as how manga are comic books, I doubt they ever showed any ;) ?
On the other hand they still show anime. "Ani-mondays " From about 10 to 1. Their anime programming has and still does suck though. Superior anime programming can always be found on adult swim.

+1 He really should have quit after the accident. I can't tell if he just keeps recycling old ideas or he genuinely can't write anything worth reading anymore.
Wasn't Colorado Kid meant for the "Western" fans instead of the horror/mystery/I-don't-know-what-the- :censored: -I'm-reading crowd?
