Title: Dinner for shmucks
Post by: danny_galaga on October 01, 2010, 08:12:10 am

I really enjoyed this, even after saying in another thread that when they 'Hollywood-ise' european movies, something is lost. In this case, I haven't seen the original, so I wouldn't know. A friend has seen the original and she didn't like it. So at least sometimes perhaps something is gained!

Bloody excellent cast. From Paul Rudd to that fat greek dude from 'The hangover', the tall dude from Little Britain as a Swiss multimillionaire. Gemaine Clement (one half of Flight of the Conchords) was excellent as the artist. And that chick that plays The flight of the Conchords sole fan makes an appearance too. Steve Carrall of course. And Ron Livingston from Office Space. Was ironic that Ron played a somewhat craven corporate ladder climber in this movie  ;D Oh, and that french sounding chic!

Anyway, it doesn't take a lot to know what this movie is about, and where it's going. But I think it did it quite well. It says of course two things 'Who's the idiot, really?' and 'Get off your high horse'.

Some genuine laughs along the way, and I have to say again that this movie certainly was all the better for its cast.

4/5 (",)

Quote
my score for recent movies you may have seen:

5/5 - Michael Clayton, In Bruges, Gran Torino, Mary and Max

4.5/5 - Taken, Iron Man, Reign Over Me, Watchmen, The girl with the dragon tattoo

4/5 - Traitor, Bedtime Stories, Sunshine, pineapple express

3.5/5 - 300, Max Payne, You dont mess with the Zohan, Yes Man

3/5 - That new Indiana Jones flick, Disturbia, That new TMNT flick,

2.5/5 - Angels and Demons

2/5 - The Love Guru. Note: My 2 is probably someone elses 1. Just leaving room for worse!

The European version of the office was very boring.. the US version made the same idea funny IMO.

Sometimes something is lost, sometimes not.

Completely disagree. The us version made the comedy more obvious. To me that's a step backwards. Although the us version isn't bad. Steve carell has nothing on ricky gervais. Nothing.

Steve Carell's best part was playing Uncle Arthur in the Betwiched remake.  He really did nail that part.

And I believe his user name is Shmokes and why is he getting dinner?  Your spelling about his user name is pretty funny though.
