I'm starting to gather items to kit out my new office and I think an arcade-themed clock would really be cool. There's a few knocking about on ebay and the like but I've got an idea to build a custom, 3D, back-lit clock using the 'Tempest' playfield as a theme. I want it to look retro but with a bit more flash, like Tempest 2000 on the Jaguar - I think the circular playfield fits nicely, I could populate the inner area with a few enemies and the fighter and laser blasts could be mounted on the hour hand.
I want to make it about a 50cm span and already have a movement mechanism with 25cm hands and was just wondering if anyone out there who's handy at this type of thing could knock me up a nice design in photoshop or something - I'm great with layering and stuff but not very good at scratch-drawing.

Get one of these:

I saw those on ebay but my god they're pricey.... £150, and I doubt that's with the price of UK shipping!

For a clock, that's +10 cool, -10 noisey.

why don't you just start with a screen shot and work from there?
awesome idea by the way, i may have to steal it from you.

Nah, this was my first thought but then I decided I wanted to go a bit further than just a rastered print on the face of a regular clock.
