I'm wondering whats your favorite cabinet style? Pics are appeciated too!
Even if you don't have a favorite, what gets pictured in your head when you think of an arcade cabinet.
Personally Galaga cabs rank high on my list.
-
Tron environmental / Star Wars full cab / Continental Circus with the real racing car to sit in and 3 screen setup - anyone else ever see that? That was cool
-
I think the Tempest is the coolest shaped standard cab.

-
+1 for temptest.
A really interesting one is Wacko

Taito cabs are my favorite.

I like the woody style personally :P actually just about any thin cab floats my boat, especially with real estate the way it is.
-
Neo Geo. Topic over.
-
I think the Star Wars cockpit is one of the holy grails of arcade cabinets. I swear that sitdown cabinet has shrunk a LOT since I was a boy. Or is it just me? ;D
-
if we are talking just about cabinet shape, then i love the galaga cabinets...i love the profile, although i dont like the monitors laid back like that.
if you are talking artwork, then it doesnt get any cooler than centipede
if you are talking about comfort in playing, you can't beat a showcase cabinet
-
I like the Dynamo showcase cabinets :)
-
---picture dump!---
Single player? Or multiplayer?
For single: Namco cabinets like pacman, galaga, burgertime. I love the intimacy of you and the monitor huddled within the cabinet.

Multiplayer:
I find the more flat-CP cabinets to be the most comfortable. Games like Rampage, Gauntlet, and Xmen.

AND my favourite nice-to-look-at cabinets:

;D

Hey!! That Xevious cab looks just like my Mame cab!! ;D
(It might be because I used an already gutted Xevious cabinet to make my Mame cab... )
Someday I hope to scratch build a Mame cab but for now I'm still designing it since there's no money to build it yet.
-
Showcase for me :)
(I know most people on this board don't like them but I've wanted one since I first laid eyes on one as a teen)

I really like candy cabinets & Dragon's Lair cabinets are awesome too. (But don't own either of these yet)
-
Jap style cocktail cabs. Any cocktail cab with steel legs really (",)
-
For at home... I'm starting to like the sit down candy cabs. But I don't like plastic or metal. I'm considering building a wood one.
Of course, I don't have one yet...
-
ANY pinball cabinet ;D The art on some of those tables is amazing and nostalgic
-
Japanese sit-downs. Astro City, Impress, Cyberlead, Viewlix. Comfort, luxury, sophistication.....
720, Star Trek cockpit (arguably, the coolest cockpit design), and Die Hard are neat.
Most of the (relatively) game-dedicated designs above are way cool, too.
-
The school desk style of cocktail cabinet. I've heard them called Japanese cocktails too.

-
Viewlix is my first pick. And in second place, the Aussie Lowboy style.
-
showcase faux shaux
-
Centipede's design was always a favorite for me. Angular, yet standard. That's why I went with that design when building my cab....

(That picture's a little outdated... I've since changed the CP to add a square exit button and black cones).
-
I love candys and big sitdown beasts, prob a bit biased tho since I own both :)
I do really like the 70's and 80's dedicated cabs for the glorious artwork
-

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone posting in this thread, its actually gotten a lot better turnout then I was originally expecting.
-
Galaga is my all time favorite. Very easy to get lost in the game while playing.
A hard to find in the wild cab, but very cool is the Joust Cocktail

-
The best of olde worlde wood construction, familiar shape, but comffortable to play at, arty and imposing gets my vote - the 'Midway fighting' shape is my all-time facourite:
