Title: How do I mount a monitor on this cabinet?
Post by: SirPeale on August 10, 2003, 07:30:22 pm
I've never mounted a monitor, so bear with me.

I've got an old Moon Patrol cabinet, and mounting a monitor is straigtforward on that one - just bolt it down.

On the Dynamo cab I've got (Click for a larger image):

How would I mount a monitor on this?  I'm guessing a combo of bolts/washers, but...

Advice greatly appreciated.  It's a 25" cab.

Buy some angle iron and cut it into 6" pieces (the longer the better if you can afford the space). Bolt your monitor frame to the angle iron pieces at the corners and screw the angle iron securely down to the wood.

Got any pics of angle iron?

Edit: I think I see what you're talking about:

That's the stuff, but what I usually get has more holes in it. You will usually find it next to some flat iron with holes in it, but don't get that. It's bendable and not as sturdy. Having the "L" in it prevents it from torquing and bending.

Can you picture in your head what I was trying to explain to do with it?

Regretably, no, I'm sorry.

Now, this is what you have done, but is this the way it's done normally?

I am using some old pinball table legs to mount my monitor vertically. My entire family could stand on them and they wouldn't bend. If you know where to look, you could probably pick up a couple on the cheap.

Honestly, I don't know how it's normally done. Probably through the use of a dedicated mounting bracket. I would bet money on it.

This method achieves the same results in the same fashion, though.

Why not just sit the monitor on a 2x4?  That's what I'm doing.  There's one for main support, and another 2x4 that holds the TV down from the top, so you can shake the cab all you want, turn it upside down, whatever, and the monitor won't budge.  All with the help of two 2x4s and 12 screws.

I have a 19" dynamo cab with a monitor already mounted in it. I'll take my camera to the shop tommorow and take pics of how it's mounted.

19" dynamo cab with monitor mounted. The monitor chassis pan has flanges formed on all four sides.

My idea works the same except rather than having the screw points on the sides, top, and bottom they are at the corners. It would provide the same support. Otherwise I noticed Bob Roberts sells dedicated monitor mounts like the ones in the above picture. However, its as large as the monitor so shipping probably isn't cheap. Plus the part itself costs probably twice as much as angle iron.

(Can you tell I like the angle iron idea?)

Ah, I think I see now.  Very clever.  I thought that perhaps there would be unnecessary strain on the tube, but it's all on the chassis...
