Title: 2600 controller pinout.
Post by: paigeoliver on August 10, 2003, 05:51:34 pm
I just got a Wico Command control joystick that I am going to put into a control panel. It has the Atari 2600 plug on the end of it.

I opened it up, and saw it just had leaf switches, and thus could be interfaced via I-Pac.

But how does the Atari 2600 pinout work? Does it have one ground? If it is easy, then I will just snip the cord and hook up the appropriate wires to the I-Pac. Otherwise I will have to rewire it from scratch.

DB-9 Cable.  5 of the connections are directions and the button, another is ground.  Just about as simple as you could want it :).

Perfect. I was hoping I wouldn't have to rewire anything.

nice thing about atari controllers is they are very simple... basically you have one ground pin, a pin for each input and two aux pins for either power or an analog axis (those paddle controllers).  So yeah you'll never have any trouble.  You could hack straight to a usb pad for that matter.
