Is there a way to configure Mame in such a way as to make it easier to do button combination which are usually linked to special moves?
There were button combinations in Mortal Kombat that I could not do no matter how many times I tried. In Street Fighter I could get things to work but it was not as easy as it should have been. The same was true for The Simpsons game.
So, is there anything I can do to have an easier time getting simultaneous button presses to register properly? Or is it just me?
I have an Ipac 2 reading button presses in.

I don't have a solution, but want to mention a quirk in MK with my mame controls.
It could be related if you have more than one key assigned to a button.
I have an X-arcade and have both center buttons set to block.
hp bl hk
lp bl lk
Both work for fine for blocking.
To pull of Sonya's special move, press low punch+block+low kick simultaneously.
It works fine if using the block button in the top row, but does not work if using the block button in the bottom row.
Like I said, both buttons work fine for block, but something odd is happening when it comes to special moves.

I have the same exact setup. And the same problem with Sonya. I'll have to try out what you mentioned.
I was also having problems with subzeros slide move which is hold back, Block + low kick

Had a look at my settings in MK this evening and they weren't what I thought.
The top center button was mapped to block and the bottom center button was mapped to "button 6" which doesn't exist in MK.
"button 6" apparently makes the character block, but doesn't work for combos.
I set both buttons to block (can't remember the button #) and both work for special moves now.

there was no button 6 on the MK games, there is a button 6 defined in mame, but it is broken. the way to get MK/MK2 to work properly are as follows:
assuming you want both center buttons to be block.
button 1 = button 1
button 2 = button 2 or button 5
button 3 = button 3
button 4 = button 4
button 5 = button 6
this works very well every time.
