Title: 19" Computer CRT Monitor Issues
Post by: Chappie on September 21, 2010, 07:44:01 pm
I have a cocktail that I have a de-cased 19" CRT monitor mounted in. Everything is up and running fine. The only problem I see is that when running vertical games (Zaxxon, Congo Bongo) it seems to pinch down the left side at the top and bottom. Almost like a trapazoid. WinXP desktop and frontend (Maximus Arcade) are all square and good looking and so are the horizontal games. I guess what it really boils down to is that the vertical games are actually running in the horizontal plane of the monitor as it sits sidewise in the cocktail cabinet. Can this be fixed? Thnaks

In what resolution(s) does the pinching occur?

Does the monitor have digital controls, can you square up the picture when its pinching without it affecting other resolutions?

The orientation of the game shouldn't be an issue, sounds like a settings issue to me.

The settings in Mame that I change for each game that I load into my favorites are: I change the DipSwitch Cabinet type to Cocktail if it is an option, the Video Settings to 3:4 and Rotate to CW 90. Are these the settings that you think or is there a frontend setting do you think?

I think its your monitor settings causing the pinching, not software settings

As far as your monitor is concerned it doesn't do anything differently for horizontal or vertical games, but it does do things differently for resolutions.

Either adjust your monitors settings, or try a different resolution (force it with mame)

Can I force a resolution below 59 Hz on a computer monitor? I did try Soft 15 but that seems to only get the video card down to 15 Khz and the computer monitor does not follow. (I had to hook up a backup arcade monitor to see enough to uninstall it since that did not work.) Do I need to bring the resolution up to say like 75 Hz?

I fixed it....I just changed "switchres" in the game .ini to "0" and it displays full screen beautifully now.
